In his first book on Volvo, dealing with the F88 and F89, Patrick Dyer took us up to the F88 290, a stop-gap truck brought out while the F10 and F12 range was being developed. These emerged in 1977 in their 'flat-top' versions of enhanced safety cabs that lasted until 1983, the scope of this book. As a direct companion to Patrick's F88 & F89 book, this volume is based on a rich selection of photographs, many full-page. As previously, these include images from the Volvo archive as well as enthusiasts' shots. Volvo F10 & F12 at Work's photographs show many UK operators on the road as well as some continental ones, a range that will evoke a host of memories from people in the trucking world. Patrick introduces the major developments and accompanies the photographs with knowledgeable captions. This is a subject particularly close to his heart as he is the proud owner of a 1983 Volvo F12, finished in the livery of Edwin Shirley trucking. Splendid truck book
Interesting book illustrated with a very good selection of photos of classic Volvo trucks. Highly recommended for truck enthusiasts.

Another excellent title in the successful formula established by Patrick Dyer and Old Pond Publishing. As always, the design and production are first class. Patrick's writing exudes knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject. Essentially a picture book, there is a lot of well-chosen text in the introductory sections and extended photo captions. The latter are effectively an extension of the former, so much so that they occasionally fail to provide specific information about the subject of the photo to which they are attached - in particular, the operator concerned. In fairness, the author is generally very good with this sort of information but, I suppose, he is limited to what has been provided with the images. The images themselves are mostly first class, particularly those from the Volvo archives, many of which are reproduced near full page. As with other volumes in the series, other photos - presumably selected for their rarity or relevance to the story - are of variable quality, with some reproduced larger than their resolution warrants. That said, few will be disappointed with the photo selection, as evidenced by the typical one-sentence review that this series seems to attract.
