It was easy to install, I get the AIR channels that I wanted without cable, quality and price very good.

Antenna won’t draw reception through this.
Maybe I’m not getting what I expected. Cut cable, went to an antenna. Fine. Set up this box and have no reception and receiver has the word BOOST displayed. Don’t know what to do.

A piece of (you know what)
I picked this Zj box because I had prior experience with the brand, but I should've known this thing would be a problem when I opened the box. It smelled burnt besides no batteries supplied. Turned it on and it just read "boot." Also the a product info is a lie. Turns out it DOESN'T have an HDMI connection.Shame on the seller for offering this piece of junk.

After a few months, I can recommend it
It takes a while to get used to the box and it's features but overall I can recommend it. You'll want to use the HDMI output for best picture quality, but if you have an older tv, it'll support composite and component. The menu tree you have to use is frustratingly slow when going from file to file. Formatting an external hard drive into FAT32 will be a pain for most people because you need to have some computer skills to do that, so if you want to take advantage of recording onto an external drive from an antenna, this is not a "turnkey" way of doing it. I wouldn't recommend this as a recorder unless you have some computer skills.I originally got this box to serve as a media player without having to use a computer. I have a 4TB drive full of movies and tv episodes. As a media box, it's....fine. It does well with MP4 and it even plays a few MKV files but not all; AVI files crash the box. Depending on how the MP4 was encoded, it can handle it pretty well without adding any artifact that I can see. I couldn't figure out how to fix aspect ratios in the device, but it can be corrected in the tv itself. Essentially, this box is good for playing 1080p 16x9 video sources on modern displays, but 720p or lower may not be what you want. The most exciting thing for me was the component/composite output. I was able to hook up the converter box to a CRT tv I have and watch 4x3 content with the vivid blacks of an older tv (we're finally getting close with OLED tvs). Watching older tv shows and animation in the way it was originally intended to be watched while using modern tech like an external hard drive is a pretty magical thing. Overall, if you're tech savvy, I can recommend this, but if you're looking for a turnkey solution, I would pay more for something easier to use.

Very basic and not super intuitive at first but it works great.
I swear it took me ten minutes to figure out how to get this to boot up - maybe it's me but the process and the displays on the screen just seemed backwards. Once I did get it up and running it detected a few more channels than my tv's built in detector did and it's even got programming info and schedules for the channels that it finds. My tv didn't have that and it's nice to know what's coming up similar to if you're browsing channels on a cable box. You're going to need to connect the included HDMI cable. I was kinda thinking that it would somehow just act as a pass-through between my current antenna setup and display over my coax input on the tv, but it doesn't and you'll need a free HDMI port (or composite - cables are included for that as well) to get everything up and running right.Recording is pretty simple - you can hit record while you're watching something or you can schedule recording of a show by selecting it from the programming guide. Pretty simple once you don it once.I have a 64gb flash drive connected to it and record speeds seem fine with no lag and no skipping on the playback. The device detected the drive and formatted it in a few seconds. I've been using it for a couple of weeks and I'm nowhere close to running out of space on it.The remote could be a little bit more powerful - you really have to aim it at the box but that's really minor gripe.I'm really impressed with the simplicity and ease of use with this box and it fills a void in my cord-cutting setup that I've been wanting to fill for years. It's great to be able to record something that I might otherwise have missed on over the air, hd antenna powered tv.
