I think this book offers a solid overview of psychodynamic theory and practice. It’s strength is it’s application of theory to practice in the context of psychiatric disorders - there are chapters on borderline disorders, narcissistic personality, anxiety and depression etc. Many introductory works delve deep into psychoanalysis’ different models of mind which can be complex for the beginner or non analytically trained professional to understand. I think this book is pitched at the right level so a wide range of mental health professionals can take something away from it. It’s content is convincing and shows what a powerful contribution psychodynamic psychology can still make today. Review: Only on page 39 but I am in love with this book. So clear, doesn't feel redundant and packed with helpful relatable content.

Very good overview and into
I bought this after reading the very good Cambridge guide to MBT. I think this book offers a solid overview of psychodynamic theory and practice. It’s strength is it’s application of theory to practice in the context of psychiatric disorders - there are chapters on borderline disorders, narcissistic personality, anxiety and depression etc. Many introductory works delve deep into psychoanalysis’ different models of mind which can be complex for the beginner or non analytically trained professional to understand.
