Gel Set skirts mutant funk, spaced out, janky beats and mechanical darkwave, but what seals the deal is her compelling ability to spin us into a grooving trance and keep us moving. 'What is the content of your body's copy?' she asks you to ask yourself. Gel Set is the art that Callier makes in her noisy bedroom, currently in Koreatown. When asked her influences, she says 'I like crunchy, hard electronic music that sounds like it was made by someone who is growing mushrooms on their person,' whatever that means, and she says she loves the raw emotion of Karen Dalton, the abstract story telling and dissonance of late Scott Walker, the synthesis of Mort Garson and Tangerine Dream, the heavy sounds of Hogg, and she's ever flattered by comparisons to Chris and Cosey. She says she also loves music with a pop sensibility, from Erasure to Jesse Lanza. She's a multimedia artist. She plays in several bands besides Gel Set (her solo project). Simulation is dreamy psychedelic electronic duo with Whitney Johnson from Matchess, E+, and Verma. Athleisure is a duo with video artist Jason Ogawa from Tarnation. God Vol 1 is a duo with visual artist Nicole Ginelli. She grew up in Houston. She s a Leo, Scorpio Rising.
