Wainwright Pictorial Guides Boxed Set

I bought this boxed set after watching a TV series about the Wainwright walks. I keep the books on my nightstand and browse through them at bedtime. I don't intend on talking any of the walks but I marvel at the detailed descriptions and the beautiful illustrations. Would make a thoughtful gift for anyone who enjoys hiking or nicely done pen and ink drawings.

Stunning and absolutely gorgeous little books. I'm likely never going to walk the fells but with these I will feel like I am there. An amazing piece of work and I highly recommend this set.

what can one say about Wainright that hasn't been said already? Wainright guides have been the bible of Fell walkers for 50 years now and are set, with the recent revisions of his classic guides, to have that reputation reinforced for a new generation of fell walkers, coast to coasters and Pennine Way-ers. Beautiful in their presentation this Anniversary Edition is a joy to touch and read. I would also like to credit the wonderful Julia Bradbury and the Wainright Society for bringing this wonderful man and his guides to my attention.

Incredibly detailed. The drawings are like photographs. It's a real work of art. I haven't done the hikes yet, so I can't say how accurate things are now, 50 years after the first printing.

I am familiar with the guides and indeed the Lakeland Fells. This set of books is everything I expected and remembered from the past. The descriptions are a work of literature and the illustrations take me all the way back over the miles and the years. I have wanted these works for a long time and they are already much treasured and well thumbed.

These books are true works of art. Even if I weren't planning a hiking trip in England, they would be great for armchair travel. The drawings are amazingly beautiful, and the text is accurate, loving, and lyrical. Favorites in my library!

My partner is Mexican and loves walking in the lakes, she had never heard of wainwright. So I bought her these and she adores them!

I bought this set as a present for my partner. He was over the moon with it, as was I with the attention to detail put into each book. We'll definitely be trying out some of the walks contained in them.
