Walter Mosley's ability to create mesmerising protagonists is unerring. A wonderful complex novel that explores modern America within the framework of a gripping mystery.

I liked the easy flow and well developed plot of this book and the ending wasn’t overly dramatic. If you like a good plot this book is worth reading. That’s why I give it five stars.

Okay, not his best but still fast paced and incredible. My only peeve— what is the Ezra pound quote? I note other reviewers have asked the same.

There are so many things I have enjoyed about Mosley’s books over the years, and this is possibly the one I’ve enjoyed most. The characters are immensely interesting and full of both light and dark. The realties of race relations in America are brought to light over and over. The story line is intriguing. The writing is top notch. I hope there is another King Oliver book in the works.
