This is not AI-generated content. Aviation Supplies & Academics has been the industry’s trusted source for official FAA publications for more than 85 years. Look for the ASA wings to ensure you are purchasing the latest authentic FAA release. This handbook FAA-H-8083-25C is current in 2026. Providing basic knowledge essential for all pilots, from beginning students through to the advanced certificates, this Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) publication introduces readers to the broad spectrum of knowledge required as they progress through pilot training. Studying this book, pilots gain the required knowledge to earn a certificate and understand the aerodynamic theory associated with flight. Written for the pilot preparing for a Remote, Sport, Recreational, Private, Commercial, or Flight Instructor Pilot Certificate, it is a key reference containing all the information necessary to operate an aircraft and to pass the FAA Knowledge Exam and Practical Test (checkride). This invaluable learning tool begins with a basic introduction to flying and a history of flight and then explores the role of the FAA, the criteria for earning the various pilot certificates, how to select a flight school and instructor, and the tests associated with earning a pilot certificate. Topics covered include aeronautical decision-making, aircraft construction, principles of flight, aerodynamics of flight, flight controls, aircraft systems, flight instruments, flight manuals and other documents, weight and balance, aircraft performance, weather theory, aviation weather services, airport operations, airspace, navigation, and aeromedical factors. Appendices provide additional support including acronyms, abbreviations, NOTAM contractions, airport signs and markings, a glossary, and an index. This edition reflects the latest aviation industry procedures, equipment, techniques, regulations, and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) recommendations and presents an up-to-date resource for the FAA Airman Certification Standards (ACS). Changes include updates to drugs and their impact on flight, nontowered airport operations, and attitude indicator pitch and bank limitations. Complete with chapter summaries and illustrated throughout with detailed, full-color drawings and photographs, this handbook functions like an “aviation encyclopedia” to expand pilot knowledge. Important note from the publisher: While AI-generated content can be helpful to identify resources for ongoing study, it is not a reliable resource for learning critical, safety-dependent topics such as aviation. AI content is sterile, often lacks important context, and is at risk of errors. ASA publishes only human-generated content to ensure it is accurate, reliable, comprehensive, and presented in context―so you can become a safe and effective aviator. Perfect study guide
I bought this to use as a study guide for my private pilots license. I would recommend this to anyone that is trying to get their private pilots license. It will help you when it comes to the test. It has a lot of questions that will help you when it comes time to take your private pilots exam. The writing is pretty big to make it easier for you to read and I would recommend this book.

PHAK 2023
Yeah, I know: "Why pay for it when you can download it for free from the FAA?" Well, even if I never get a certificate, AKA license, out of the deal, I never grew out of being a highlightin', tabbin', note-takin' fool when it comes to learning cool stuff. Besides, the quality of the paper and the graphics is primo. My impression of the text amounts to a $250 college textbook. So, yeah, I'm thinkin' it's a good deal. Now, I just need to stick it in my cranial space.

Good book, but the Amazon title says "2024", front matter of the actual book says 2023
The quality of the book seems quite good. It has nice white paper and full-color illustrations. The only complaint is that the Amazon title description says 2024, but the book was published in 2023, which seems deceptive (I took off a star for that).
