Matilda (Puffin Modern Classics) Paperback – Illustrated, 1 Sept. 2004

I already reviewed the British Library edition, which I had received via NetGalley. However, the book seemed so gorgeous I decided to order the hardback with the cover that appealed to me.

I bought this for a friend for Christmas and she was delighted with it! So quirky!

Lovely edition to give any Royal Dahl fan.

I might be stating the obvious but this is the existing book Matilda with a new cover.The covers are of course lovely and the story is very good but I bought this without looking into it assuming the story had been picked up 30 years later with three new endings. I'm sure most will read this and think that's my fault (it is), I'm just writing it in case anyone else was wondering the same.I now own two copies of Matilda.

Great addition to the series

This book is an absolute delight! I have seen the movie and the stage show but am of a generation who are too old to have been of an age to read the book when it first came out and my children read it on their own so I didn't get to appreciate it that way either. I loved this edition and seeing the Quentin Black illustrations new and old was fabulous. Personally I am voting that Matilda is now Chief Executive of the British Library!With thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Children's UK Puffin for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, what a wonderful idea to keep one of the incredible, Roald Dahl's most loved books evolving, and being able to see how Matilda turned out and what she is doing with her life at age thirty is so very special. It captured my heart from the first few lines, and I simply couldn't stop myself reading the whole book in one heartwarming sitting. Ironically, I then wished I had devoured it a little slower in order to savour it, and because of this I know I will return to it again and again!I must also mention the iconic illustrations by Quentin Blake, they are as timeless now as they were when the original was published back in 1988. I have already purchased three copies to give to my nieces for Christmas, and I know my sister will love it as much as the kids will! I certainly enjoyed my reunion with Matilda and love that the inspirational, kind-hearted and strong girl has blossomed into a woman with the exact same substance she had back then. An unmissable book that both children and the young-at-heart will appreciate.Many thanks to Penguin Random House UK Children’s for an ARC. Matilda is a modern classic, beloved by so many readers. It's a book that makes children into avid readers, encourages a love of reading and highlights the escapism that books can provide.Like many bookworms, I adored the story of Matilda growing up and saw myself in Matilda - a bright young girl who loves reading and learning. But, again like many bookworms, I wished that I too had magic powers like Matilda! Being able to control things with your mind is something that many of us have tried growing up, and Roald Dahl's incredible writing really makes you believe that you can.These Matilda at 30 editions are absolutely stunning. It's fascinating to think about how Matilda has grown up and where she would end up. Of the three designs, I personally think that the Chief Executive of the British Library is the most likely, but in reality I would not be surprised to see Matilda as a teacher or a lawyer. Her sense of justice and fairness would be very much suited to these two careers.Matilda is a story that will continue to enchant readers for years to come, and will continue to be a rite of passage for young bookworms.
