Just what I wanted - here are a few answers to questions I had at purchase
Just what I wanted - here are a few answers to questions I had at purchase: I was curious as to if the upper of the "Double Edged" blade would be sharpened. I was happy to see that it wasn't. The ray skin handle was BEAUTIFUL. The Scabbard is 100% wooden and comes with an awesome waist tie. Overall an awesome Katana! Amazon's price being amazing on top of that! Would recommend.

Great buy for the price!
Well, I recieved this very Katana this afternoon. I will be completely honest, but first I have to contradict against the negative reviews and correct a few. First off, you have to understand that you're looking at a sword with the price range of $400. Therefore, this katana isn't forged the traditional way with the correct techniques with the correct minerals. Any sword manufactured/forged by a mass production company will not have the qualities in strength or weight. A sword properly forged will be very thin in thickness of the blade and tang; also the hilt will be very slim. A properly forged sword will have strength and durability that will withstand abuse beyond how coldsteel test their swords and will last throughout certuries if properly cared for. "A Sword of any style or forged in any culture was designed with one purpose. That purpose was to maintain durability with the intentions to cut and pierce human flesh to take the life of another, end of discussion. I almost forgot, do not down the manufacturer of missing parts due to you purchasing from a third-party distributor. Anyway, I am satisfied with this katana. It came complete as in the description. Razor sharp, no damage, no missing parts or items, no rattles, and everything tightened.

Is it a bad sword? No, but not worth what they ask at all, especially from ColdSteel's site
Is it a bad sword? No. By that i mean it works. but in clean cutting a buzzards head off, it chipped the blade in 2 places, not good. The wooden meguki pins that hold the blade in are made of a very soft wood and are impossible to remove. There is no hamon or hardened edge at all it seems, just sharp steel. On the positive side its sharp and looks nice. So basically don't buy it, its worth maybe $250-300 brand new

Pleasantly surprised.
A few months ago I bought a Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri, VG-1 San Mai III and was absolutely stunned at what a complete beast of a knife it is. I then saw the infamous cold steel DVD infomercial on youtube on the Dragon Fly Katana. In a testosterone filled moment of euphoria I ordered one from Amazon on impulse. It was only then that I noticed the numerous bad reviews. I felt stupid. So, I really wasn't expecting much. I took delivery today and am actually very surprised at how well mine is put together. I have none of the loose ito wraps, loose fittings or endcaps that everyone was complaining about. The blade is spotless. It is truly a beautiful sword and feels solid. Nothing loose and no rattles. The only thing I am disappointed in is that the blade is very dull. I haven't chopped anything yet but I did try the suspended paper cut , which resulted in the paper taking zero damage. I sliced a quarter way through with my knife to see if the sword could finish the cut....nope. It just ripped the paper. I guess its not that big a deal but from all the reviews raving about how very sharp it is right out of the box, I just expected more. No biggie, I will just have to get it sharpened. All in all, I give it a 4.5 star rating. It is definitely a HUGE step up from the set of Kill Bill replicas I have and it was very affordable. Definitely a great value for the money, in my uneducated opinion.

Money well spent
This is a thick and intimidating cutter. If you want a zombie apocalypse katana. This is the one. If feels good in my hands. There is nothing that catches my skin and fingers on or rubs against. This Katana is very forgiving and can take the abuse of a novice. The fit and finish seems to be very good and tight. The Nagasa is a little heavy, but that seems to be where the power comes from. It appears to be the American version of the Japanese Katana. With all of that said it looks very good as well. I was not disappointed at all. I am very happy with this purchase. I would definitely purchase this again. The only downside is that the color of the tsuka-ito is more of a forest green than a teal color.

Incredible finnish
Believe me...it's an outstanding sword... Worthy in every way. I've tried several other products (all more expensive), but this one is exceptional. In some months I will look for the Emperor sword. I'm just afraid of paying more forthe same or less quality.

Good company to work with that handles the cold steel
The ito maki is very rough but the company that is handling the orders are very great to work with for returns.

Seller knowingly sent a damaged product, and last purchasers info. Questionable authenticity.
The low rating is for the terrible behavior of the seller. The sword is so-so, and I question itโs authenticity. I received a product that was obviously returned. There is significant damage to the saya where the finish is completely removed and the wood is exposed and damaged. How do I know it was returned? The last purchasers slip was still in the box, with all of their personal and order information on it... clearly they received the damaged product back, and then immediately shipped it out to another sap... aka me. Iโm not even sure that this is an actual cold steel product due to the price point. The only thing that might indicate that it is is the ornamental katana bag. Other than the damaged saya and significant fraudulent behavior by the seller, it seems like a decent sword. Worth what I paid for... definitely not. Be aware that this sword is not exactly a traditional katana. Itโs close... a hardwood tsuka, what looks like imitation rayskin, softer wood pins that appear to be glued in place, and the blade has a more aggressive curvature to the cutting surface, and is very hefty. Not as heavy as some swords, but heavier than a traditional katana. The blade design is indeed optimized for cutting (if it is an actual cold steel blade and not a knock off, the blade material makes a tremendous difference). The saya is obnoxiously tight, and almost impossible to draw smoothly.

I find this to be a very beautiful katana. It is a little hefty but not extreme. Blade if straight and polished and oiled. The blade is very sharp and by no means dull. Katana handles vey well and is a highlight of my collection. One issue though not that serious but I have found this in most of my Cold Steel Katanas. The Habaki fits a little too snug in the Koiguchi to make it so the Katana cannot be withdrawn from the Saya by using just the thumb

The quality is not very good.

Wicked sword cuts thick trees, doesn't bend. Holds a good edge. The only thing is the ito wrap isn't very tight. So after a few cuts the kashira will come off and you will need to re wrap the ito on the tsuka.
