As soon as I tried an organic applesauce from the store, it worked absolutely perfectly. I would suggest straining whatever you intend to put in the spoon through a sieve first to avoid frustration while traveling. **Q: Can baby self feed with this? My 8 mo old refuses to eat if Im holding the spoon, so looking for something he can hold himself & eat his cereal/purees** A: NO.
