Geo Watkins Mushroom Ketchup 190ml - Pack of 2

I love this stuff on most things. My Nan n grandad used to have it years ago, and me and my parents would love using it on our food. It’s great on fry ups! There is no thickness to it, as it’s like a vinegar, rather than a sauce. This is why I put 1 out of 5 for thickness. It isn’t a fault, this is how it should be. Value I gave it 3 out of 5. Because years ago when Nan used to buy it, it was £2 in shops. I have also found it in shops few years ago for £2.50. So it’s expensive compared to that, but this product is hard to get now, so justifies the price been more expensive. But... this price was the cheapest I could find on Amazon.

You don't need much in the dish, to make the flavour pop out. I bought this as an experiment and thought it was cheap at the time, and it is because the quality is amazing with not just one, but 2 bottles. The flavour has an earthy quality which you'd expect from Mushroom ketchup but reminds me of a cross between Soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Works well in all kinds of foods from Chinese cooking to Italian to good old fashioned shepherd's pie. Try it, it'll become a permanent feature in your kitchen cupboards.

I started buying this stuff about 10 years ago because I heard it was a good alternative for Worchestershire Sauce (Lea and Perrins) for my cheese on toast, and didn't contain anchovies, so win win! (For me, anyway.) I only bought it via amazon this time because my local supermarket is small and doesn't stock this, and since lockdown I've been staying local. It does have a similar flavour to worchestershire sauce but it's milder. It's great for adding flavour to sauces, mushroom soups, etc. I use it in a lot of my cooking to give a depth of flavour since I'm not cooking with meat, I also add it to risottos. Also, most importantly... it's great for cheese on toast!

The term ketchup suggests a thick sauce, but this is in fact more like Worcestershire sauce in terms of consistency. I'd suggest it works better as a cooking ingredient rather than something to put on a finished plate of food. It adds a very nice umami flavour so is great in casseroles / stews / chillis and the like. It's quite concentrated so you only need a little. Be aware that its consistency means it comes out quite quickly so it's easy to add too much if you're not careful!

Great addition sauces and other meals. Has a deep earthy taste which enhances the flavours of other ingredients.

I absolutely love this mushroom ketchup, my local supermarket stopped selling. I’m so pleased I’ve found it again. It’s perfect for adding flavour to meaty dishes like steak and kidney pudding or pies, mushroom soup. In fact any dish that is hearty and warming really,it add a deep flavour to the dish.

I have had this since I was a young lad and it adds so much flavour to every dish. I would have it on nearly everything (apart from my Sunday Lunch) but it is especially good with cheese on toast, cottage pie, chips, rice, egg noodles - I just love the stuff!!

Flavour is not great,if was make a strew or something with mushroom it would be great, but not try that yet

I bought this because I wanted to experience something akin to the mushroom-based precursor to what we currently call ketchup/catsup. It's very different (which I expected). The bottles aren't very big, but the flavor is strong enough that you don't need a lot. The consistency is watery and the taste is like a cross between A1 steak sauce and Lee & Perrins Worchestershire sauce. It's very salty and savory--not sweet at all. Due to the watery consistency and lack of a pour spout, it can be a it of a hassle for dipping, but the flavor is incredible. It pairs well with steak, and probably most any savory dish. It's a bit on the pricey side, but not outrageously so.

This is a pretty good condiment, the original ketchup, if you don't know what to expect, it's runny and more like Worcestershire sauce than tomato ketchup and used it much of the same way. It comes in a cool old-fashioned bottle. However, it doesn't really add mushroom flavor to your steak or anything like that, it's pretty much just a more expensive version of Worcestershire sauce for marinating. If you want to add some mushroom flavor then cook some freshly chopped mushrooms with your steak. I'd only recommend trying it at least once if you have money to spare.

Not sure exactly what I expected. The Mushroom Ketchup comes in a small glass bottle. The bottle has no shaker spout to limit the amount that pours out (which I think would be a really good idea!!). It smells somewhat like Worcestershire sauce, but with a bit of a kick. I have taken to adding it to my salads -- yummy! Can't wait to try on a burger ... feels like using it connects our family to history1

I have to say, unequivocally, that this is, by far, the best mushroom ketchup I have ever had. The only caveat to that statement is that this is the first time I have ever had mushroom ketchup. All kidding aside, I would say it kinda reminds me of Worcestershire sauce (WS). Tastes great, and am now looking for some recipes that I can use it in. I always like trying new things, and when I heard about this, I knew I had to try it. I’m glad I did. If you like WS, then you should like this as well. About the seller: the delivery was quick, and packaged very well. Two glass bottles, with sufficient wrapping, to reduce the possibility of the bottles breaking in shipping. Very happy with the seller, and would purchase from them again, and would recommend them to others as well. If you are somewhat interested in this product, try it, you’ll like it!

I like to dabble in the kitchen. One of my recent discoveries has improved some of my dishes and sauces by adding that element that the Japanese call umami. That's not to say that Geo Watkins Mushroom Ketchup only enhances oriental dishes. It amplifies that certain flavor to almost any dish you care to try, whether it be Old World, oriental, or fusion. Just add a few tablespoons to any meat dish and sauces and you will be well pleased with the brilliant flavor it imparts.
