I ordered them on a whim since my daughter is really into Korea and we thought they’d be fun to try.First, we tried these straight out of the package. They weren’t very sweet and they were fairly firm, not particularly chewy. They were ok, but I wouldn’t bother eating them, especially as a dessert/snack. Of course, we have typical “American” tastes and like our sugar, so you may have a different opinion. Then we tried putting them into soup/broth. They did get softer but didn’t really seem to absorb any of the soup flavor. They were ok in soup as well. Another thing to note: after opening the first package, we left them on the counter in a ziplock bag. They molded very quickly. We were surprised by this. We put the second package in the fridge after we opened it & those lasted longer. This isn’t particularly a flaw, but it’s something to be aware of. Not because I don't know how to prepare them, but because I'm sure there will be customers who will need directions to enjoy them properly.The most common way to eat these is as tteokbokki, which is rice cakes and with a spicy sauce. There's a simple recipe for this in the listing. I used them in rabokki, which is basically tteokbokki with the addition of ramen. They were delicious.Out of the package, rinse them, then cook them in boiling water. These are fresh rice cakes so they don't need to be boiled for long. About 5 minutes to be al dente but longer if you prefer them softer.Rice cakes take on the flavor of whatever sauce you prepare them with. They aren't meant to be eaten unseasoned. They also aren't shelf stable, you'll want to refrigerate them, or if you want them to keep for longer freeze them.These are nice quality rice cakes.
