Nicely designed and surprisingly compact travel kettle
I bought this travel kettle mainly for using on travels abroad when hotels and apartments don’t always have a kettle or other water heating facility. It seems that not all countries have the same need for a cup of tea that we have in the UK! This Bear brand kettle is surprisingly compact, being not much larger than an insulated water bottle of the same 300ml capacity. This makes it very portable and I’ve carried it in both small suitcase and rucksack without it taking up very much space. The power lead that comes with it is around 70cm long so is also fairly compact for carrying but a reasonable length when in use. The kettle seems well-made and is robust enough to survive carrying around. It comes with a soft cloth bag which also gives some further protection from scratches and so on. As I wanted this for mainly foreign travel, it was important to me that it would work with various power supplies that are used in different countries. The plug on the lead is a three pin UK plug, so it is necessary to use a travel adaptor to take account of the different plug configurations in most other countries. The electrical specs are as follows and are relevant to exactly where you can use the kettle: Power: 300-360W (most multi adaptors are easily able to handle that power level) Voltage: 220-240V Frequency: 50-60Hz As the kettle is not dual voltage, it shouldn’t be used in countries with power supplies that have a voltage lower than 220V. So that means that it isn’t suitable for use in the US, Canada, various Caribbean Islands, Japan and a number of other countries. That is slightly unfortunate as although it can be used in many countries (you can find lists of voltages in different countries from various websites) it can’t be used everywhere. In fairness, this was not an issue for me and the listing does show the suitable voltage range. As described in the listing, the kettle is designed to heat water to a choice of four pre-defined temperatures of 45, 65, 85 and 100°C. I have used a probe to test these and can confirm that my kettle heats the water to within a degree or two of these temperatures. In my experience, the time taken to heat tap water to 100°C is just under 8 minutes and there is a beep when the kettle is ready to open. I’ve done this in the UK and several EU countries (the latter using an appropriate adaptor). The lower temperatures obviously take less time to reach so if you don’t want your tea scalding hot you can make your cuppa more quickly. The 300ml capacity is sufficient for a decent mug of tea or coffee or for Pot/Cup Noodles. The kettle successfully keeps water warm just as described in the listing and can also be used as a flask. This kettle has really improved my travel experience. It has been reliable, is compact and it achieves the temperatures it claims to in a reasonable amount of time. The price is good and it is a nice object to own. Overall, I very much recommend this product although if you need a travel kettle to use in countries with lower voltage you should look at dual voltage alternatives.

Ideal little travel kettle!
I travel to the Lake District once a week for work and stay over one night in a room with no access to a kettle! Not a good idea for a tea lover, like me. I was using a travel mug and making a tea at work for the following morning but it was cold. Then I came across this little gadget! I’ve only used it a few times but it’s very easy to use and means I can make tea in the evening and a fresh one in the morning when I wake up. It’s very compact, well made and quiet. I have a 600w power bank so I’m going to try using it on the road too! Ideal for campers and people who stay in hotels without a kettle (or, if you don’t want to use a hotel kettle). Ideal for making up baby bottles too (as long as you have access to electricity or a power bank).

Great device! Helps me make a brew and not use dirty hotel machines
This little kettle is a must-have for any crew member. It’s tiny, lightweight, and the four temperature settings mean I can make perfect coffee or green tea without touching gross hotel kettles. The stainless steel liner and keep-warm function are solid! The only reason it loses a star is the universal voltage reality: when I plug it into 110V outlets (North America, Japan), its low 300W draws make it really slow to boil. You’ll get there, but it takes patience. Tip: If you're on a 110V layover, only fill it halfway (150ml) to drastically cut down the boiling time!

Doesn't have all the functions it says it does.
Bear 1.7L electric kettle. Doesn't have the functions it says it does. It has no indication of water temperature after the boiling process has completed. It doesn't hold a constant temperature after boiling. After boiling, the kettle goes into standby mode, displaying 00, and nothing else. Also, really slow to boil, but at least it is relatively quiet due to this. In conclusion, it doesn't work as advertised, doesn't work as stated in the manual, and is a complete waste of £25 unless you just want a basic kettle with a few temperature settings.

Saves time
I bought this Bear travel kettle mainly for preparing formula for my newborn, and it has been a real time-saver. I usually fill it with fresh water, heat it once to 100°C to make sure everything is properly sterilised, and then keep it set to 45°C when it is time for a feed. It heats up quickly since it runs directly from electricity, not a battery, and the temperature control is very accurate. The size is just right for baby bottles — about 300ml — and it fits nicely on the bedside table or in a travel bag. The stainless-steel lining feels sturdy, and the lid closes securely so there are no leaks when pouring. The keep-warm function is especially handy at night because I do not have to reboil water each time. Pros: fast heating, precise temperature control, perfect size for baby feeds Cons: Unable to heat up while traveling or outside as it is not battery powered

Great kettle
So far so good, quiet boiling, easy to use, cool touch body and lid, looks good, I like that the inside doesn’t have a lip so when lime scale builds up you can tip it straight out and there’s nothing for it to get caught on and being trapped in the kettle, so the kettle will always be clean. I’ve read in some comments that the inside gets stained but I’ve not had that in mine, I live in a hard water area to I think the stains people are talking about is the start of lime scale build up, which I have noticed in mine but it’s nothing that white vinegar or a limescale remover won’t get rid of. I really like the kettle and all it’s functions so I hope it has a great build quality and lasts a very long time… so far I’m really pleased with my purchase.

Good but...
The switch is very sensitive to touch, if pressed too hard- the digital temperature numbers start circulate around on the display. It is very fast, moderately quiet. It would be a bonus if the filter was made of a fine mesh to keep any lime scale off- instead off a build one with a relatively bug holes. Important- no water level indication on outside- which I missed to notice before buying it. You have to look inside while pouring water in to know the amount of water going in. Over all not bad, but.. could be better.

Great portable kettle
Worked really well for a good-sized cup of tea in a hotel room. It was light and easy to pack in a suitcase. It had a much quieter boil than I expected and boiled within 5 min, which is at least what you'd have to wait for a standard hotel room kettle. I used it several times and didn't have any issues and it stopped boiling by itself when the temperature was reached. To test it for handbag carrying, I tried turning it upside down when full of water and it didn't leak. Overall, great travel kettle.
