I have a fairly new (2015) Samsung Smart TV - a brilliant concept that is wifi linked to my laptop and android phone - any photos/spreadsheets, etc are stored on the TV as well as my other media. It updates automatically and I can use it as a PC if I wished - quite slow in tapping out the commands though. The 'plex' is therefore not required if you update your TV.

My telly is pretty old how would i connect this to the telly?

You have to connect using an HDMI, cable which is included in the box and it will work, as long as you have an HDMI port on your TV.
