As a freelance writer, I face a myriad of reasons for using voice recording devices. I have been using db9Pro recorders for two years. Then, they came out with a NEW 8 gig voice recorder with a few bells and whistles AND the same low price?? I had to check it out. The recorded sound exceeded another name brand device I’d bought for four times the price. What I love about the new digital voice recorder: Sturdy. When it arrived, what I notice first of all is the weight. It’s heavier than their other simplified recorders. (It’s even heavier than my more expensive one which I no longer use.) Illuminated. While it was charging you can see the battery bar indicator, the screen lights up. Easy to use. The window is very tiny, but because it’s illuminated, I ‘m able to read it with no problem. It shuts off after about 20 seconds. Once you learn your machine, it’s simple to navigate. Pinhead light. When recording, the tiny pinhead light in the top right corner goes from white to red. That’s helpful to me. The backlighting of the screen turns off after a few seconds to conserve power. Quieter case friction. While handling the case, in record mode, you will hear it, but not to the degree or volume that you hear it on other models. It usually sounds like loud scratching and it can be distracting, but not so much with this unit. Excellent speakers. While the device recorded every word, even the whispered ones. The playback speakers on the device are really clear too. MP3 Player. I listened to a bird chirping and running water. The sound is incredibly clear, but to hear it even better, they’ve included ear speakers, or you can use your own earbuds or headphones. For storage beyond 8gb, you can insert a microchip. Button Controls: These controls are a decent size and room between. Accessories: One set of earphones plus a charging/download wire, all of which fit in a standard eyeglass case (not included) Instruction booklet. Almost 20 pages of clear instructions for familiarizing you with the device (be absolutely certain to read them!) Plus a warranty card. I always make sure to activate this, because most of us understand that electronics can be fickle. Since they send it, I make sure to register. (FYI: They have never abused my email with a bunch of spammy information.) Sturdy cardboard storage box. Great price. What I don't like: I don't like having to reference the book for initials that pop up on the screen. It means having to carry the booklet whenever I intend to use the device. But this one is far less complicated than some I've used. Best suggestions and insights: Familiarize yourself with the function keys of your device. I mistakenly turned off the device before saving since in low light, the keys look similar and I forgot which side of the unit save was on. (Right of the screen.) And it did not save. They really meant that line, save first and do not shut off to save. Additionally, if you do turn it off incorrectly your sound file will show as recorded but it will be empty. Certainly, it can be advantageous to have a backup device (I have 2 backups) you’re sure to get a good recording. In their very helpful and informative booklet, they warn against recording near other electronic devices (specifically phones.) Not wanting to risk interference, I leave mine far from the recording devices. But after recording, I have never lost any data due to a phone being in the same compartment as the recording device although I try to keep them separated as a precaution. Microchip port to maximize memory. I suggest getting one designed for sound recording (as opposed to date or photo storage) to maintain sound quality. I found it easiest to load the chip from the computer and then install in the device. The unit charges very quickly, under an hour. Mine went from dead to fully charged and if there was battery bar activity in accumulating percentages, I missed it. Everything I needed to know was in the book. For those of you who will be using this to record important information that you don’t want to lose, I suggest getting a few of these. My intrigued client held the device in her hand as I asked her how much she thought it cost. Her first guess was $100. She flipped at the true price. (Under $30!!) I suggest you buy several before they realize their true value!

I am a project engineer and I love this recorder that I use exclusively in most of my important meetings. I just started using it db9Pro recorders for about a few weeks now and love it. With the 8 gig voice recorder, I can record multi-meetings with ease. Never worry about running out of space. The recorded sound exceeded another name brand device I’d bought for a lot higher price. What is great about this new digital voice recorder: It comes in a really nice box. It is sturdy, strong and very well built. Illuminated when it was charging with battery bar indicator, the screen lights up. Very easy to use. The window is small, but because it’s illuminated, it makes it easy to read with no problem. It shuts off after about 20 seconds. Once I learned how to use it, it is very simple to navigate. The backlighting of the screen turns off after a few seconds to conserve power. This unit operates very quiet and listening to the recording, it is awesome. Sounds really clear and vivid. The unit has excellent sound quality coming from such a small unit make playback very clear and that is very important to me. If you need a recorder, get this one.

Actually a little bit disappointed. For the price point I expected better noise reduction but its background noise is still significant. Other than that, it is a good recorder.

I just received my db9pro dBR-D1 voice recorder to help me in finishing a writing project, and I really like it!. Ideas perish if you miss capturing them and I needed something really easy to use. I received the package from Amazon and it came in a cool little box with headphones, USB cable and instructions. I also received an instructional booklet in a friendly customer service followup email. I read the booklet that came in the box and learned all the buttons. I tried it out on the recorder, and then I read the one sent in the email. Reading the easy to follow materials was well worth the time. Ultimately, the device is really simple. It acts as a recorder or an MP3 player that sounds good. You slide a switch to record (wait for it to initialize for a second) and slide it back to save. Playback is simple, although you have to get used to the interface. The recorder is really small which makes it practical for on-the-go daily use. Any recording you make can be easily transferred to your computer with the USB cable. And there, you can use software to edit the recording as needed. For the price, this gadget is loaded.

I read the reviews and thought this was the choice for my needs. In actual use, I find it less intuitive than my 3 previous voice recorders. Also, I like to use it to capture reminders in bed. A bright menu screen light appears when the unit is switched on. There's kind of a warm up period before you can record. It would also be nice to have an actual erase button on the unit. The printed instructions are supposed to be clear, but I didn't find them so for this function. It's quite heavy for such a small unit as well. The heavier metal construction is a bit of overkill with the availability of lightweight plastics today. Many gave this product an excellent review. It's probably for sound quality. For me personally, I don't like the layout compared to previous recorders, and it sits on my counter top, rarely used. I wouldn't purchase this again.

The audio quality is crystal clear - way better than the Sony that I used to use. I also like that I can plug it into my Macbook and import the audio. It has a screen, which I like, as I can see that it is recording. The files come to my computer as .WAV, so I use Audacity to convert to MP3, which is easy enough (although in a perfect world, I'll simply import MP3). The company support is excellent and the recorder comes with a printed manual, which is very useful. Also, the recorder is small and lightweight, making it convenient to use. The battery lasts a long time, and it holds hours of recordings. All great features! I'm attaching my previous reviews at the bottom since I had this recorder that stopped working completely within a few months, got a replacement that worked if you made sure to wait between turning on/off and recording and now it doesn't work again. But in between this "making sure to wait" was completely unreliable and by the end the recorder seemed to record but then when "saving" it got stuck and lost the recording entirely. Either completely unreliable (you can never tell whether it'll save the recording) or simply doesn't work!!!! Do NOT waste money and most importantly mental state on this. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Old review: I bought a recorder that died within 6 months of fairly easy use. I didn't realize it was under warranty. The seller contacted me to enquire about the problems I had and sent me a replacement under the warranty!!!! It's been over a month and so far the replacement recorder works great and pretty constant. The only "glitch" is you have to make sure to start and end recording in an orderly manner otherwise it may seem to record but it doesn't and you'll find an empty recording when you try to access it.

Super compact, quality build and feel, easy to use and master controls, long battery life, picks up faint sounds at a distance pretty well as long as theres not to much back ground noise. Play back quality is more than sufficiant. I've had recorders that cost twice as much as this one that either took a poo poo within a month or had no arguable differance betwen them. ive dropped it a couple times and it didnt even phase it. highly recomend

This review is written after 2 years of use. Basically it's an amazing product, it records everything, after 2 years of very light use battery life is still amazing, i just recorded around 6 hours revording and lost 1 out of 4 dashes of battery. I usually use it to record for legal proof in case one day I have to go to proof something to any legal department (police, court, etc...) I have actual recorded proof that people did what I'm accusing them of (mostly money loans). At first I had a problem with putting it in my pocket and going out because simply it detects everything in my pocket, every small move makes a huge noise on the recorder. A couple months after the purchase I founf out that I could tape it anywhere on my body, the noise is still there but it's way less and way more useful this way. This is one of the products that you'll never need until you actually do and then you can't wait 1 day for shipping. I can't believe how I almost returned it because back then I was like "how will I ever use it" but now I'm very thankful that I didn't. This review is couple days after the purchase snd review was 4 stars Yeah everything that is stated in the description is included but it’s not a pocket recorder!! sound quality is pretty good, battery life is great. Just one thing that bothers me, I don’t know if it is just mine or everyone is like that. Simply, you can’t put it in anything while recording it detects every noise possible no matter what, even some noises that you can’t really hear. Otherwise I’d say totally worth it...

I really like it, I use it to record my sleep (as I'm alone) so I hear if I snore or suffocate while sleeping. The only downside is the screen lights up every 30 minutes because it starts a new recording. I know I've set it up to 30 minutes, but in the night, it's annoying to have the whole room light up because it's starting a new recording. Except this issue, it's very sturdy, in a metal case and records quite well!

Excellent product! Solid metal housing, feels very sturdy, great quality, good user interface, veryong battery life, easily integrates with other devices thanks to the USB / SD card options. Sound quality on recordings was particularly impressive, on review I found that audio files had clear and audible recording of quiet conversations with loud ambient noise - was initially concerned they wouldn't have been captured but on review found they were clear and audible without any sound enhancement Small and non-conspicuous, sits comfortably in my chest pockets, slightly larger than my middle finger. Highly recommend for anyone who lives in a one-party consent jurisdiction, anyone who works in a toxic workplace, or feels any need to have an honest witness document their conversations

This is an excellent little device that does two things very well - recording and playback of recording. I use it primarily to record my observing sessions as an amateur astronomer, since notebook and pen was proving difficult and awkward. I am also finding other uses for it as well. In terms of ease of use, this device is also excellent. I need glasses to read all screens, but with this device I rarely need to. A simple switch changes the mode from playback to record, and if I pause a recording, "paused" will flash on and off so I can always tell when the recording is in a paused state. An effective, simple, and well made little device. Highly recommended for those who need an affordable yet well designed recording device.

This recorder was pretty decent. I was able to hear somewhat of a conversation where the device was in a car. Did the trick for what I wanted it to record (catch a cheater).
