It’s very high waist and the waist is clutching me, but it’s not clutching in a way that’s bad. One size up would be too large for sure. I was also hesitant about the length because one review said the short was way to short on her and she was 5’3”, I honestly don’t know how that would be possible. The short length on me is exactly to my feet so that I can wear heels or slippers.I did get the thin fabric for movement and it’s really nice. Let me just say it is NOT easy to find pants that aren’t too long when you are 5 ft tall! And these trousers are THE PERFECT length, I kid you not. I have never purchased a pair of trousers or slacks that didn’t need to be hemmed, I was astonished when I put these on that they fall just above the floor—kind of like a half inch from the floor barefoot. I also struggle to find pants that clasp or have buttons and aren’t too loose around my waist. I generally wear a size xs and these fit perfectly around my mid section, nice and snug. The elastic in the back is a smart touch! The fabric is solid, seems like they will hold up for a while and they seem to be good quality.
