Whisper silent when installed up side down
As commented on by other reviewers, found it a bit creaky when I first installed it. Stripped it down and greased it and re-installed it, still creaked. So, I followed another reviewer's advice and mounted it up side down so that the spring is being expanded rather than compressed while the door is open. The closer is now silent and works a treat.

Work Fine
Works Fine, mine lets out a slight creak when in operation, but not really an issue.

Not that good.
When operating, it sounds like an old mattress being sat on – lots of twanging and bong sounds, even at the lowest tension and with a good oiling.

Needs oil!
As many others said, I had to take it apart and oil the inside, it still squeaked for a while after oiling but settled down after a week or so.It's easy to adjust but could do with an extra adjustment screw thingy if you really want to get a good tension in the unit

Excellent top brand Gib Closer which works. SILENT
Gibcloser Surface Mounted Automatic Spring Door Closer – White.Functionality: The branded Gibcloser from Astra door controls has been fitted to a lightweight kitchen door. It is capable of closing the door against the latch but offers imperceptible resistance to opening.Looks and product quality:The Gibcloser is a branded product from Astra door control and looks and feels solid. The supplied screws are more than sufficiently long and are made of good hard material meaning the heads do not wear with repeated insertion and withdrawal (you may find it necessary to temporarily fix the door closer or readjust its position during installation so good quality screws are a benefit). The door closer slide channel is low friction plastic with a SINGLE center fixing screw. This is a major advantage which sets this quality brand apart from lower cost alternatives. A single center fixing screw means that the slide will be moved/pivoted about the screw by the slide arm and therefore automatically align itself with the direction of movement of the slide arm. A two screw fixing slide would not pivot and if it was not accurately aligned with the direction of travel of the arm some additional friction/resistance to sliding would result which would mean that the closing force on the door would be reduced. The addition friction could also result in a scraping noise and wear and damage to the plastic slide.Mounting:The door closer has been mounted on the architrave around the door and is therefore around 1-1.5cm above the door surface. This has not stopped it working. One point to note when positioning the slide is that some on-line instructions suggest fixing it so that in the door closed position the slider rod is over/near the center screw. If you do this you may find that when the door opens the rod has gone past the end of the slide. So best to mount it close to the start of the slide. I concluded that I needed to mount the slide so that the rod was near the start because the closer on my door is mounted 1-1.5 cm above the surface of the door. So I advise that you check where yours will end up before permanently fixing the slide with the screw provided.Closing:The door closes fully with the latch overcoming the striking plate resistance and locating in the box. The closer did not require to be “wound up” more than two places. On my door the effectiveness of the closer is different depending on whether or a window or outside door to the kitchen is open/closed. With an open window/outside door the door closes fully and the latch locates in the striking plate box. With the window/outside door closed the door only closes up to the striking plate - the latch does not locate in the striking plate box . I have concluded that this is most likely because as the door closes there is some air pressure/resistance which the closer needs to overcome. With a window or outside door open the pressure is equalised - clearly the door could be made to close fully if the door closer was wound up more but for me closing up against the striking plate is good enough.Noise:some reviewers have commented on noise and marked the closer down. This I believe is unjustified. The door closer is a mechanical device with moving parts. ALL MECHANICAL devices which have moving parts will make some noise. It is not possible to have a completely silent operation from a mechanical device with moving parts unless all friction is removed. This can only be done by running at extremely (-273C) low temperatures. Using a more complex design could reduce friction (and hence noise) to almost zero amount but this would invariably be a much more expensive device. The issue is therefore is the noise excessive. I believe it is not.In normal operation the noise the closer makes is drowned out by the noise of other kitchen appliances (dishwasher washing machine boiling kettle/fridge compressor/etc.). It is a little unfair to complain about a door closer which makes significantly less noise than these appliances and costs only pounds. How much noise:In operation the noise from the closer is negligible. The noise is not obvious and NOT noticeable as you walk through the door. But if you extend the door closer to its maximum or violent open the door the internal spring does make a louder pinging noise. However this usually settles backdown to an almost inaudible noise. Some reviews have packed the door closer with grease which has dampened the noise but I don't see the need for this. The door closes has been fitted to our door for several months now and any noise it makes is still not noticeable. The loudest noise is in fact the noise of the door closing against the frame.UPDATE after 6 months: The closer has been on the door for 6 months and is SILENT. Any small noise that was there has disappeared and when the door is opened and closed the most noise comes from the door hinges and its banging against the door jam.Highly recommend but avoid the low cost copy cat products

Take the path of least resistance.
Does what it says on the box; closes the door for you.I live in a house with teenagers who are clinically unable to follow any simple instructions such as "close the door behind you" so I bought one of these. It was pretty easy to fit and was up and working within twenty minutes.I concur with other reviewers who say they can hear the springs, so I removed the main unit, unscrewed the top and filled the interior with bicycle gear grease (all I had to hand) and reassembled and put it back up. It is now totally silent and has been working a treat for the last month; so much easier than training a teenager!
