Originally tapped as a potential successor to Bruce Lee, Hong Kong martial-arts phenom Jackie Chan soon established his own unique screen persona, blending goofball slapstick and bone-crunching kung fu into intricate feats of supercharged athleticism. Tracing his rise from breakout star to full-fledged auteur, these six unabashedly silly, unstoppably entertaining early-career highlights find Chan refining the lovably mischievous image that would make him a global icon, while also assuming greater creative control over his projects—first as his own martial-arts choreographer, and later as a writer-director who set a thrilling new standard for daredevil action comedy. FOUR-BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES Review: Excellent versions of Jackie's movies before he discovered his own flavor. - After purchasing many versions of Jackie's movies these are the most clear and complete as you would expect from the good folks at Criterion. This makes it a must for Chan completists. If you are looking to purchase these films because you've liked his later stuff....be prepared for something different. These are early Jackie before he found his niche. If you like Jackie's American releases you may want to first try the Shout Factory collections first. These are very much the old-style Kung-Fu Theater type movies that would play on UHF channels of Saturday afternoons (not that there is anything wrong with that). Plenty of extras and upgraded subtitles make this collection a great replacement for the other discs you may own. Review: "Clásicos de las artes marciales" - Llego rápido y en perfecto, lo recomiendo.

fits perfectly with the Shout Select collections
I see some reviews criticizing this set for not having some of Jackie's more popular films, but I'm just glad that this doesn't share any duplicates with volumes 1 and 2 of the Shout Select sets.

Missing essentials on Blu Ray at last
First thing to know is Fearless Hyena II is absolute garbage. Half the movie was filmed with a stunt double after Jackie left Lo Wei for Golden Harvest. Second, Spiritual Kung Fu has good vintage kung fu aesthetic, but it’s a pretty dumb film. This collection is important and worth the purchase because you get Jackie’s earliest films where he had creative control. Humor, stuntwork and chroeography with stools/environmental objects that would become his hallmark took their shape in Half A Loaf of Kung Fu, Fearless Hyena and Young Master. All three of these films are must sees in Jackie’s catalog. It’s also important to note that this films fill in the gaps left by the two Shout Factory Jackie Chan blu-ray collections. Here you get My Lucky Stars, which sits inbetween Winners and Sinners and Twinkle, Twinkle Lucky Stars (which were included in Shout Collection 2) to form the trilogy of ensemble cast films during Jackie’s mid-80s transition period. Not great but not bad either. All in all worth the price for three solid classics and one film that completes a trilogy for completetionists. Hopefully criterion will get their hands on Drunken Master 1 & 2, Snake in Eagles Shadow and the Project A movies and give them the same treatment as they Police Story.

Fearless hyena is the only reason for buying this collection
The only movie worth watching is fearless Hyena. Fearless hyena 2 might not be the best but it's still better than half a loaf of kung fu and the lucky stars movie -despite fearless 2 is being a rehash of the first one with stock footage.
