Is the fork functional? Can it actually stab food?

It can, as long as the food isn't too hard (which really shouldn't be a problem for most food when cooked properly for a baby - I mean softer veg etc not rock hard carrots, meat would depend on how it's cooked) But also it's unlikely a baby would stab with a fork until a bit older and then would have more strength to do so. I can stab food with it but my 11 month old takes it straight off!

Is it too late to start trying these with my 14months old? She just hates using anyting apart from her hands

Definitely not! My eldest used these from 6 months and could then use a bigger baby spoon by 10 months and bigger baby fork by 1year. My youngest currently 11 months still prefers his hands but I offer these at every meal!
