Excellent Performance and Cooling Power, a Lifesaver in the Heat
I wanted to share my experience after using this Bosch portable inverter air conditioner. It truly has fantastic performance; in a room of about 18 square meters, it quickly brought the temperature down to 18ยฐC while it was 30ยฐC outside, allowing me to get a very good night's sleep. The unit collected about 3 liters of water in my container over 12 hours, and the noise level was really tolerable and low during the night. While we do experience some temperature loss due to my unsealed window, that's an issue with the house's structure, not a fault of the appliance. Overall, I am very positive about it. I highly recommend considering this air conditioner!

Exceeded expectations!
After quite a lot of research this unit was purchased to replace a 9 year old Ac that had become inefficient and expensive to run. The Bosch Cool 5100 is very impressive for its quiet operation in general use and near silent night setting. The cooling is very efficient and although we have only had it a relatively short time it easily managed to keep the entire upstairs in a four bedroom house reasonably cool with an outside temperature of 30c (this was with the assistance of some additional fans to move the air room to room). It is easily able to keep a large sitting room cool and is very unobtrusive once it has reduced the initial room temperature. The unit seems very solidly built and has a well designed and easy to use control panel as well as a remote control which is handy. The Inverter cooling system is a big step forward, keeping the unit very quiet and noticeably reducing running costs. We have had no problems with the water tank becoming full as reported by others, all the condensation has been evaporated via the exhaust air hose. Certainly worth the premium price for the advanced tech and quality.

Excellent cooling performance. Quiet.
Excellent cooling performance. Quiet even when the compressor is running and a smooth off/on transition as its the inverter type, no clunk like on cheaper AC units with the old type compressors. Looks great and the remote feels premium also has an LCD on the remote. You might need to buy a window seal if the supplied one is not suitable for your window type.

Quiet operation but watch the electric shock hazard
The idea of the "inverter" is that rather than using a phase locked single speed motor, the mains AC is chopped into tiny controlled pulses that can drive a motor at any speed. This allows the compressor to be spun up slowly (no clunk) and modulated to run at partial speed rather than cycling on and off. The downside is this requires a powerful transformer with large smoothing capacitors that hold a charge even after the unit is switched off. I was had the misfortune to pick up the plug and touch the prongs after pulling it from the wall and those large capacitors discharged through my hand leaving it numb for days. I am amazed Bosch got this through safety testing and I'd expect better from a European manufacturer. I have last year's 5000 version so this could have changed and I am happy with the unit but now know that the plug it potentially "hot"

Not such a cool customer after all
Well it works ok, but i have a 30sqm room, it was 26'c two hours ago and the room is still 26'c. The air con keeps switching off and on at 23'c and now at 20'c as if the temp set has been reached? See pics, so it would appear to have a mind of its own? You do notice a reduction in humidity though. Yes it is in a sunny room, so perhaps 18000 BTU would have been a better choice not 12,000 BTU? Now turned Auto off and put.on max and the temp has started to drop - slowly. The dehumidifier helps with comfort though

Looks smart, it is large and very heavy, the remote is poor though
So i've had a chance to use this a few times now, it's a/c performance is average compared to other units i've tried. The exhaust pipe is rather too short for some room locations to the window and i've had to purchase an extension pipe. The remote control is virtually useless, it doesn't seen to synchronise properly with the main unit so you often have to use the main control. I don't really think it is value for money.

Quiet but also useless
So first the good part - well there's only one. This is really quiet. None of the vibration or clunk of a compressor turning on and off. But maybe that's related to the bad parts still to come. The bad parts? The cooling is lacklustre. Really, really lacklustre. It's rated for 46 square metre rooms and I have it in one that is a quarter that size. It was unable to get the temperature down to 20C from 22C and that was when external temperatures were less than 20C. How will it cope with actual warm weather. Related to that the manual says you should only set to to 24C-27C. They don't seem to realise they're selling this as an air-conditioner to COOL the room. 27C??? They're mad. It has a "Sleep Mode". This is really quiet and turns off the display. Great you may think. But what's that hidden in the manual? Sleep mode increases the temperature over the next 2 hours by 2 degrees, then runs for another 6 hours, then does back to the original cooler temperature. Again they don't seem to to understand its for cooling the room. Also sleep is best in a much cooler room than normal and this is doing the opposite. But that doesn't really matter since it will only run for a few hours anyway until the tiny water reservoir fills up. This happens after only a few hours on a relative cool and dry night so that it beeps several times very loudly, waking you up, and then stops cooling so it's an expensive lousy fan. So you only got a few hours of Sleep mode and then it a useless pile of junk until your drain it. And that's another bundle of fun. The drain plus is half an inch off the ground so you cannot even get a baking sheet under it. You cannot use the hose as you have to open the drain plug first which pours water everywhere and once you get the hose on you still can't drain it because water doesn't flow uphill. Basically they expect you to have a hole in your floor or operate it in a shower only. Remember this fills up in a matter of hours so it's going to be a daily task at the least. It gets 2 stars because it quiet but really that's pushing it. This is also an initial impression so I will update it after more use but it doesn't look promising.
