Poo gel saves the day!
I have used this on two occasions now and I guess I never left a review, but I was so impressed with it over this last camping trip that I had to make sure I did! The first time I used it was back in 2024. I had gone to visit my dad who at the time was in a nursing home. I was traveling about 2000 miles away from home in a little short bus that I had modified to camp in. I made a toilet out of a 5 gallon bucket with a pool noodle on the rim, mainly so that I wouldn't have to use public restrooms while traveling and so that I wouldnt have to leave the bus in the middle of the night to go potty. It was so nice to just pull over on the side of the road, do my business in the bucket potty, and then keep trucking on down the road. I have a lot of anxiety around needing to pee while traveling and this took the anxiety of needing to find a restroom completely out of the equation. It was fantastic! I also didn't have to worry about it falling over in transit and spilling pee everywhere. I used small trash bags in the bucket and over noodle, then put the poo gel inside the bag. I specify in the bucket and over the noodle because if anyone else is thinking of doing the same thing it's so much easier to deal with than putting the bag in the bucket, then putting the noodle over the bag. Plus you always have a clean seat! I bought such a large box of poo gel because I'd previously used a similar product and I planned on visiting my dad more in the future. He sadly passed away right after that trip, so the box has been sitting in storage the last 2 years. I decided to chaperone my son's youth group camping trip this past week and I remembered I had that box of poo gel and the bucket toilet. I felt crazy packing it but it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. I am in surgical menopause and to be quite honest with you, my ability to "hold it" is not what it used to be. The vault toilet wound up being a substantial distance away from our camp and there's literally zero chance of me being able to hold it all the way to the facilities. I also have to get up multiple times in the night to use the restroom and I wasn't waking the whole camp to drive there. So long story longer, my bucket toilet came in clutch on this trip!!! Previously when camping in the bus I had used 1 poo gel per potty break then disposed of the bag quite promptly. I had used it for both #1 and #2 when in the bus. It doesn't do much for poo, unless you have poo of the liquid variety, so I'm not sure why they chose the name "poo" gel... But I digress... On this camping trip I was using it strictly for #1's. I had packed a box of previously opened trash bags and proceeded to use 1 poo gel per potty break but quickly discovered there weren't as many bags in that box as there were going to be potty breaks. So instead I opted to put 3 poo gels in the bag and just use one or 2 bags per day. It just depended on how many times I had to go that day. I usually started the night off with a fresh setup since one of the youth girls was sharing my 2 room tent and I didn't want to have a bucket of pee sitting in there all night. I tell you all of this because I have never had a bucket of pee soaked poo gel sitting in a tent in the heat of the day before, but I was pretty shocked at how well it worked. First of all, 3 poo gels was probably overkill. This stuff is incredibly absorbant. Not one single time did I have a bag that had any liquid in it. Everything was gel. And I could go to the bathroom multiple times on already "activated" poo gel and it just kept absorbing. Second, the lemon scent is fantastic. It made the tent smell fresh and clean. Once you did your business for the first time, you really couldn't smell it much anymore, but you also weren't smelling pee either. Around lunch time my tent was no longer in the shade and it was hotter than a six shooter in there. Never, not even once, did I walk in the tent and smell pee despite it sitting there baking for hours in the heat. The only time I smelled pee was when I was actually peeing. I probably got way more than 3 pees out of the 3 packets I put in the bucket each time so I was actually getting a lot more bang for my buck than if I was using a new bag and poo gel each time. Everything gelled up nice and thick. It was not watery at all. I had a pop up camping trash can outside my tent and when it was time to change out the bag I tied it up and tossed it in the trash can. I never smelled the aroma of pee baking in the sun out of that trash can. The poo gel seemed to trap all odors very well. When it came time to leave and I had to pack out my trash it was so easy to deal with. I didn't have to worry about anything spilling out. It might sound gross, but peeing your pants is even more gross, so I was really glad I had the poo gel and my potty bucket! Me and a friend will be camping again soon and I'll definitely be bringing my potty bucket and the poo gel. It beats the heck out of having to go out and squat in the middle of the night. It's worth every penny! I also wanted to comment on the packets, I didn't notice until the last 2 days of the camping trip that these packets have a little notch cut into them that make tearing them open very easy. The brand of gel I had previously did not have those little notches. They are very easy to open, there's no need to rip them open with your teeth, which would have been nice to know sooner lol. The notches can be a little hard to see and I don't think they are labeled which is why I didn't notice them at first. Overall I am extremely glad I discovered these. They are easy to use, keep the smell contained, and hold a ton of liquid. They make disposing of your "business" so much easier. Each packet has a lot of powder in it and you could probably get several uses out of just one packet. I'm sure someone has done an experiment with it and crunched some numbers. I didn't do any of that, but I can tell you that 3 packets is MORE than enough for a whole days worth of potty breaks. I will be buying more when I get low. They made my camping trip so much more pleasant not needing to worry about how far away the bathroom was and being able to go in the middle of the night without trekking a mile to the vault toilet. Also, the smell was actually pleasant, unlike the vault toilet!! Poo gel definitely saved the day (and night) on this trip!!

Best porto-packs I've used
This is my favorite brand of porto-packs! I have tried many, but this one actually gels very quickly and subdues the odor the most, without trying to mask it with an overwhelming smell of lemongrass or mint or whatever the other brands are using. Honestly, I didn't smell anything using these packs. I also feel like you get more product for less money with this brand, so not only better quality, but more quantity for your dollar. I always double bag my toilet, just to be safe, but there was no leakage, it caught all of the liquid. Each individual pack is also compact and is filled with powder up to the tear point. I was able to use one pack with two number ones sometimes, if that helps give you an idea of how many you might need to pack. I'll be purchasing a few more boxes so I don't run out anytime soon and while they're at this price.

Best Poo Gel We’ve Used So Far
So far this is the best portable toilet absorbent gel we’ve used. It solidifies waste fast and does a great job preventing leaks and splashing, which is exactly what you want when using a bucket toilet, portable toilet, or anything in a car, tent, or RV situation. I also like that it comes in small individual packets because it’s easy to throw a few in a pack or glove box without carrying a big container. The light lemon scent helps too, and overall, it just makes portable toilet use way cleaner and easier.

Good for camping or in a pinch
I took these along with a 5gal bucket and toilet lid for a car camping trip. My boyfriend thought it was unnecessary, but you never know when a restroom isn't available. It turns out we didn't need it while camping, but on the way back, *someone* had too much fast food and was facing an extreme emergency on a 1hr stretch of highway. About 30mins in, it was too much to bear. It was night time, so we pulled over, lined the bucket behind the suv, and poured poo gel inside. Put a tarp on the roof rack for privacy and had a very bad time. Once it was over, we added one more packet of gel for good measure. The good news is that it is strong enough to turn diarrhea into gel. It was not liquid at all. The bad news is that the gel's odor eliminating properties are pretty exaggerated. Even double bagged, we could smell a sort of vaguely bad bathroom smell plus strong fake lemons in the car the whole drive until we found a trash can. It wasn't as bad as regular poop, but it certainly wasn't pleasant. But for , It was a great value and got the job done.

Odorless and does the job.
This product is very absorbent. A packet will swell up to a gel that holds at least a quart of liquid. Placed in a plastic port-a-potty liner, it makes the job of disposal much easier and more pleasant. The product has little to no odor. When we have a "deposit" containing solids, if not satisfactory, I'll update this review.

Convenient & effective
Ideal for a portable toilet in a pop-up tent. Not overly scented - just enough to remove nasty smells. Sachet portions are v handy.
