Great for posture, walking, squats.. but probably not for running. *by P***T on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 March 2021* Having previously bought back supports on Amazon to try to stop me slouching, particularly working in front of a computer all day. When I walk, my shoulders are still hunched and I am developing that vulture forward bend in the neck. I found those unweighted braces with steel inserts ineffective and was still looking for something to force me to hold myself more upright and keep my shoulders back.Unboxed this weighted vest today. I weigh almost 50kgs and this is 5kgs. It is heavy to lift but a good weight on. The weight is distributed front and back but because there is so much more weighted area on the back, this does make me straighter, more upright, keeps my shoulders down and forces me to use my trapezius muscles between my shoulder blades keeping my shoulders open. Delighted.I haven't used it outside for walking yet because it is pouring down today, but I think it will be great for walks. This amount of extra weight also forces me to engage my abs which is an unexpected plus. It is large, even when the clasps are tightened to maximum, but for walking this is fine as the weight keeps it in place. If I was crazy enough to wear this much extra weight running, this would bounce all over the place because it is extremely loose for an average sized woman. I have (for 2 seconds) jogged on the spot just to see what happens, and the weight bounces horribly because it is not possible to secure, so while it might work for a larger person, generally not good for bouncing activities.In the interests of science, I also just did a couple of squats and single leg squats. This vest will be great for those, but given the weight I picked, will take a while before I personally could wear it for more than a few... OK, two.The only other observation is that this is shaped similar to a life vest. On each sides, holding together the weighted front and rear sections, there is a single elasticated strip. Given that the front clasps are adjustable with a long capacity, I think it would be better for joggers and bouncing exercisers if the side straps were not elasticated.I'm afraid, even in the interests of science, I can't actually do one press up with this amount of extra weight, but I think for you maniacs out there, this would be a good way to amp up your routine. It does work for plank.So great for posture when working and no-one can see you, great for walking, great for squats and minimal bouncing movements. Does not seem suitable for jogging/running.It seems well made. Just to observe that even if I were to replace the elasticated side strap or try to find a way to add straps to make this fit more snugly or more secure, I could not because it is cut for someone larger, like a much bigger woman or a man. This isn't a problem for how i want to use it, but it would be nice for the money if it were or could be made a better fit for my size.PS. I am off work this week and will be wearing every day, all day while doing my usual house work and daily stuff.I am a 5' 7" female, UK size 16 with rather large boobies, I have the top strap attached nearly to the smallest size and the bottom strap about 1/3 tight. It is really comfy to wear specifically across my shoulders. I am a decorator and my mum has just been diagnosed with osteoporosis and arthritis (she was a child minder and dinner lady for 30 years - very, very active, my grandad also had osteoporosis). I read a report on how wearing weighted vests can help with bone density and prevent or delay arthritis, so was interested to see if this small change could help with the possible delay of the inevitable.In terms of the quality of the product, it is well made, the weights are evenly distributed. I like how there is a good amount of weigh on the back and this, I feel, is helping with my posture or at least making more aware.The only downside is that these vests used to be really cheap - £20 for a 5kg in Argos and Wilkos before the pandemic. NOW you are lucky to find one below £40. As with all health related stuff once it becomes popular it also becomes expensive.Personally I think I will out grow this weight very soon, it is (according to reports), the optimum weight to see a difference in bone density and possible weight loss. Be interesting to see how that works along with a calorie controlled diet. I would have rated it perfect but I am a small framed woman and the vest does not tighten/fasten enough so when I run if bounces up and down that it starts to rub and sheaf causing discomfort.
