Toxic Shock Syndrome is a rare but serious disease that may cause death. Although rare, it is associated with the use of tampons. Do not use tampons if you have ever had Toxic Shock Syndrome or if you have had a serious infection associated with a tampon. Use the lowest absorbency needed to control menstrual flow. Remove tampons before going to sleep. Remove tampons at the end of your period. If you use tampons, change them frequently, at least every 4-8 hours. Wash your hands before handling tampons. If you have any questions or concerns about Toxic Shock Syndrome, consult your healthcare provider. To clean your tampon, either boil it for 3-10 minutes or place it into the washing machine at 60 degrees. Then either leave it to dry naturally or store it in a bowl of water ready for the next insertion.
