Good classic film..
I have seen the film on numerous occasions. It is a good film, but you can see how far films have progressed technically wise and how far we have come. Still a good film.

As the saying goes, they don't make 'em like that anymore
Watching GWTW, for the first time, I felt I was watching pretty much all of Jane Austen (there's even a character called Darcy in it), Vanity Fair, and Wuthering Heights, all rolled into one epic, operatic melodrama. Bizarrely, it also reminded me, obliquely, of the Fifty Shades stories. Why, you ask: because of the super rich man whose wealth just seems to be there, conveniently ready to be exploited by the enterprising female protagonist. Otherwise GWTW runs in reverse, the marriage comes first and the rough sex part comes afterwards.Don't worry, fragile reader. There's no nookie in GWTW, just plenty of war and destruction and death. Much easier on the eye, right?GWTW has all of life's rich pageant in it, and it made me laugh several times, and just occasionally at the film as well as with it. The lead character of Becky Sharp (sorry, I mean Scarlett O'Hara) is one of literature's and cinema's great, great egoists. The American Civil War is to her an inconvenient nuisance, like an uninvited and underdressed gatecrasher. In the first half hour or so I was groaning: brother, I don't know if I can abide this capering coquette. Then Clark Gable's Rhett Butler appears, opens his mouth to speak, and the film ignites. From then on the next three hours and more are cake. And thankfully the film has an intermission, an obvious halfway point, so you can stop, stretch your legs, take the dog for a walk, and come back to Tara later on.Really, this film has the whole human comedy in it. I was fascinated by the way the characters, of which there are many, contrasted with each other, complemented one another, and represented different virtues and attitudes to life. There is so much delicious snobbery, so much prejudice and discrimination (not the kind you're thinking of), so much nobility and generosity, connivance and petty cruelty, and so much poignancy and loneliness. GWTW is full of people playing roles, just like its actors, trapped in the past as times change; and is it better to pull yourself up by the boot straps or sink solemnly and with dignity down into the oblivion, true to the old ways? And I sure did laugh at how so many characters die, right on time, just when the plot needed them to, just as they became an obstacle to something else happening. As I said above, you can laugh at as well as with GWTW.This is a sumptuous 1930s colour movie, one that swept the board at the Academy Awards, and it manages the grand sweep and the chamber scenes with near equal verve. Just bear in mind, it is a movie from the 1930s and a movie about the civil war of the 1860s, not at all a movie of the 21st century. So, don't expect, well you know, pin sharp digital images and CGI and all that.Makes me want to read a short history of the civil war, and maybe a biography of Larry and Vivian.

History on film
An enrapturing film of titanic significance, although it spans almost four hours I believe that all should watch, even if just for the charming accents and stunning fashions.

Master 2k imperfetto e tante lingue ...e i contenuti speciali?

Great Movie, but Stupid German Post
I have seen this movie many times. I wanted a copy since I know it will not be available much longer. In Germany I had to show my Passport to receive the package from DHL! I am 62 years old and this is a PG movie! Unbelievably ignorant and stupid!
