I filled the syringe (which was much too large for my purposes) with the 7.5ml of dye I had by disconnecting the tube and drawing it in from the open nozzle, then I ran the engine and AC (which was at low pressure but working slightly). Whilst running I connected the adapter to the LP port, the pressure (around 30psi) pushed the plunger out with some force (so would have been better to be holding it down whilst opening a valve. The syringe has a good seal, so I was able to force the plunged down and injected around 5ml of the dye.
