i have those tapes at home. is there anyway i can play them ?

If you have a duel player unit ie a VHS video recorder player and Video 8/Hi 8 player you may be able to play them on that type of machine. Failing that you will have to play them through a video 8/ Hi 8 camcorder connected with phono leads to a television set or through a video recorder. Failing that you will have to transfer what is on the tapes to either a VHS video cassette or blank DVD disc in order to view the contents.
