safe to use in pots or does it scratch them?

I haven't purchased this yet but I have a Cuisinart immersion blender which I hate-splashes everywhere very easily and it has partially broken. It is usable but I want to replace it. I have nice stainless steel All Clad pots and was concerned about scratching, but have decided that I have an old and deep 3 quart saucepan that I will use to transfer cooked soup from a good pot to the old pot and then I won't need to worry about scratching my pot. It seems like an easy solution. It just means one extra pot to wash and soup pots are usually easy to clean.

What is the diameter of the blending attachment and of the wisk (I need to make sure it will fit in the cups I want to use it with)?

Blender is 2 5/8" dia. Whisk is 2"

can you use this in a pot of hot soup right on the stove top?

Yes. I used this in my Instant Pot while my soup was still hot, and it worked beautifully.
