Amazing Printer at a Great Price
Purchased this amazing printer at a great price as a Black Friday special deal. Was not happy with my HP LaserJet; decided it was a good time to replace it. Although I've only had the printer for a little while, I am amazed by its quality and performance. Setting up the printer right out of the box was a breeze; no problems whatsoever - even connecting to WiFi. I had the whole thing up and running in less than 20 minutes. This printer can handle a lot, but I will be using it mainly for everyday print jobs in my home office. Judging by the quality of the pages I've printed thus far, I am more than happy with this beautiful Canon. If you are on the fence as whether or not to purchase, don't hold back. This is a terrific printer.

2-sided scanning to pdf works... and it's super fast!
Based on some limited reviews that said scanning doesn’t work and / or scanning 2-sided outputs to an image file, I almost passed on this. But I needed a new printer and went for it during a limited time deal (almost $100 off). AND let me tell you that scanning both sides of a page DOES work and outputs to a PDF. Not only does it work, it’s super fast! I’m scanning to my PC directly to a PDF file. Printing is awesome (double sided which is the main reason I purchased this). Upon plugging it in (power and ethernet), the language menu was messed up (i.e. selecting United States showed time zones in Europe… went to ‘Other’ country and was able to find my USA time zone from there). It then found a firmware update so I allowed it to download and install it directly (selecting yes though the touch screen on the printer... it did it automatically; I didn't have to download and manual install it). I then installed the software from Canon’s website (driver and scan utility) on my PC which required a reboot and then I was off and running. Though I just got this and mean-time-to-failure is still unknown, so far… this is the best printer I’ve ever had! And I've had like 3 so take that for whats its worth ;-)

Oh the convenience!
My previous printer is a Samsung laser printer. It wasn't bad at all: very portable, with low-cost laser drum replacement, very reliable and lasting many year without any issue. But until I got this Canon imageClass printer, I really did not know how much I've missed all these years. This Canon printer is not much larger. In fact, it still sits on top of the same file cabinets where the Samsung used to perch. It's so easy to configure the printer over the network - you'll find the printer right away as it "speaks" Apples's Bonjour language. It has many features that I have yet to thoroughly explore., but I've managed to print, scan, scan to email, creating address book, configuring an smtp server (with gmail), etc. The large touch screen is very easy to use. It is environment friendly - automatically goes to sleep if not used. I have not utilized its fax function. I don't have a phone line, so I most likely will only investigate how the ifax can help in the near future.

Reliable machine for us
Our old printer was very expensive so we wanted to repair it when it had issues: Took us a bit to figure out it was cheaper to buy this printer than the service call on our old one. Not to mention the price of parts. We’ve used this one a while now and it is reliable. It would be a ‘five star’ if it weren’t for a few quirks with accessing the “online settings” and a few odd steps on the panel. Probably a 4.5 +/- Excellent machine, very fast response, economical use of ink. We print roughly a hundred pages a day on average with no issues.

Prints well/ fast - The scanner (and software) are useless...
I have to scan many documents of a variety of paper sizes and I'm having a heck of a time doing that because I have to constantly run back and forth from the machine to the computer terminal, clearing errors all the time! The warnings are so frequent that the scanner is barely usable! I honestly feel like I was scammed! I was always under the impression that Canon produced good products, but they must have been on vacation when they designed this multifunction machine! The printer is fine. No complaints there. The scanner and software is so bad, I half believe that they intentionally designed it this way to aggravate users! If the slightest thing is unexpected it halts your scan process and you cannot proceed unless you provide input from the computer (which is not always next to the machine Canon)! You cannot clear the error from the scanner which is ridiculous! That's where your performing the task! Also, in this day and age, computers have enough memory and processing power to allow for automatic cropping (and de-skew), doing away with the need to specify the paper size! Using microswitches and the contrast of paper from the scanner bed background via imaging, it should be fairly easy to determine or at least estimate paper size to the nearest likely size. If you don't set the paper size correctly when using the flat bed, it throws a warning and requires user interaction, again at the computer terminal! At the very least, they could give us the option to NOT halt the job when there is warning (no interaction required) OR allow the user to clear the error at the machine itself! The communication between the computer and the machine appears to not be synchronized properly or severely delayed because after a considerably amount of time, it throws a warning stating that "originals were left in the feeder" when attempting to load the next batch. The software thinks you just inserted originals immediately after the previous job when it was 30 sec to 60 sec ago! So I have to wait more than a minute before I can load the next job to avoid a warning that (you guessed it) requires user interaction at the computer terminal??? Seriously??? On top of that, sometimes the automatic feeder grabs more than one sheet at a time and damages originals because the "throat" is not entirely smooth! There are edges in there! Why??? And could it hurt to allow scanning of non-standard paper lengths like banners for example? Give us a banner mode! I would expect better from Canon! To summarize: the scanner is not up to modern standards and was not designed with productivity and workflow in mind (perhaps to anger users), there should be auto-crop, auto-de-skew, auto-blank page detection standard in a modern scanner, and at the very least, allow clearing errors from the machine which is where your physically doing the scanning! Can I have my money back please??
