could it fit a store bought ice cream pint in its original packaging?

Yes, it will hold a pint of ice cream

Is it dishwasher safe?

Hi Nancy, No it is not dishwasher safe as it could ruin the product...I just clean and wash it by hand 👌

Is this microwave safe?

Nothing with metal is microwave safe.

We bought two. One is perfect, the other we cannot get the lid off! It has become quite the contest. Anyone have any suggestions?

Try soaking the entire container in water to loosing the the lid for about 15 minutes. I hope this helps.
