The 1971-72 Texaco Cup was a tournament that saw Derby County claim the silverware in a thrilling campaign. The Rams faced opposition from England and Scotland, scoring 17 goals in their eight games, including a 8-5 aggregate win against Dundee United and a 4-2 comeback against Newcastle United. The final saw Derby edge out Airdrieonians 2-1 on aggregate thanks to goals from Alan Hinton and debutant Roger Davies. Brings back memories!
A very good account of a long forgotten trophy which was well competed by the English and the Scottish teams from a time when this tournament actually meant something to supporters too.
