There is no denying that the Rite in the Rain memo book is the boss of pocket notebooks. Here's why: 1. It's the right size (~8 x 12 cm) to fit in the pocket, front or back. 2. Waterproof pages make it perfect for field notes, travel journal, site notes, or even just as a catch-all notebook 3. 112 pages mean that it is more than your average field notes, but not so many that it is heavy in the pocket. 7 4. The pages are lined, but with faint dotted lines running vertically to easy convert into grid lines. 5. despite the waterproofing, no fancy pens are required. A biro or a pencil work fine. 6. It IS waterproof. I regularly took this thing in the shower. After, I'd just shake it off and leave it on the windowsill to dry. A couple of cons to consider: 1. Whilst a pencil works great on the pages, it is difficult to rub out lines. It seems to rub off some of the paper's coating too. Though this didn't seem to effect waterproofing. 2. The book comes with a handy ruler printed on the back cover. However, this rubbed off after a week or so in my pocket. 3. Personally, I would have liked it to come with a pen loop. There's no way around it. This is a premium product with a premium price point. However, if you are serious about finding a waterproof notebook that can survive being dropped in the mud or read in the pouring rain with confidence your notes will be safe and sound, then this is it.

I bought this for a university field trip to the Central American rain forest. True enough, it remained waterproof in the rain and the writing stayed on the page. Highly recommend for anyone who works in outdoors and needs to take field notes.

I'm a gardener on a large estate and I carry one of these notebooks in my pocket at all times, this last one I've just replaced has been soaked multiple times, dropped and left in mud for a few days, crushed baked frozen and battered. With a pencil or permanent marker I've written in all conditions, and it's taken it all. I thought this was a ridiculous price for a notebook and my first one was a gift, having used one I'm all in. They're excellent. The photo is after almost exactly a year, try that with a regular notebook.
