Review: Electric fireplace looks like a real log burning one. - This log insert was easy to install ( by my handyman) who has expertise in capping off gas fireplaces & didn’t take long from start to finish. It looks so real & does heat the area directly around the fireplace even though I wanted it more for the ambiance. The flames look real & visitors coming over to see it after it was installed thought it was real . I like that it has a remote to adjust the flame look & amount of heat. The heat may not be enough for someone trying to heat up an entire room but was enough for us & again I wanted it more for the ambiance because my heating system heats my house . And because I won't use the heat, (it has a short cord) I do use an extension cord which is not advised. I would be hesitant if you want it for heat but cannot reach an outlet easy. The cord easily feeds behind my fireplace doors and hides along the base until I attach and hide an extension cord to the outlet. It does not come with speaker, so I got a tiny little Bluetooth speaker that I hide in the fireplace and Alexa will play crackling fireplace sounds that sound so real I have fooled many. While we like real wood fires, we got tired of all the work that went in getting them going, keeping them going, and cleaning up the ash. Most of the sets didn't seem realistic to us at all... but these looked reasonable and the cost was right. What we got was better than we expected. The size of the set looked proportional for our fireplace, and looked more realistic than expected (not perfect, but very good). There are a lot of adjustments, for size of flame and brightness, flame speed, and heat. We were pleasantly surprised that this actually puts out more heat than we expected. We wanted some heat, but didn't have high expectations. This overdelivered. You can adjust the temperature or turn off the heat altogether. Sitting on my sofa and adjusting everything by remote control is MUCH nicer than having to get up all evening to stoke the fire or add more logs... and no cleanup!
