My wife could even smell it on a different floor. Good news is that the smell goes away in less than an hour. I didn't want to hire someone for such a small project, so I decided to give this a try. I followed the basic directions, shook the can well, and tested it before spraying the repaired area. It was easier to control than I expected, and I was able to apply light coats until the texture looked close to the surrounding wall. After it dried, I painted over everything, and from a normal viewing distance the patched area blended in fairly well. I did notice that keeping the spray moving gave me a more natural finish, while spraying too long in one place created a thicker texture. That was easy enough to fix after practicing a little.
