Good-bye fire ants..........!
It works really well. Kills the whole mound and the queen as advertised. I dug into the mounds afterwards to see how effective and no ants or movement. Helps me keep the yard safe for my mother who likes to garden. Poor woman was being bitten all the time and no longer wanted to care for her plants. This helped. Don't know how long it will last yet. We shall see. ....Edit 05/01/26...While it works well and kills the mound, I am not able to keep them from coming back. It's like playing wack-a-mole. Still, a good product.

**Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer1 eliminates fire ants quickly and effectively.
Honestly, this stuff works. I had fire ants all over my yard and after using Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer1, they were gone super fast. The smell is a little strong, but it does the job. I would definitely buy it again.

Knocks out imported red "fire" ants
I have used Orthene for years! It decimates a bed of fire ants in a few hours. Do not disturb the mound, apply it on the mound and around the perimeter about 6" to 10". It is a great contact killer. You can see them getting all "herky-jerky" once they are exposed to it. I recommend apply it using gloves and in calm conditions. It is a powder and will be harder to effectively place it if windy. The light dusting will get them coming out - then the countdown is on! I try and pound them after some rainfall and they are on the move. You won't kill 'em all, but you can get them moving outside of your property line. Good luck because they are vicious little guys!

Works exceptionally on Red Imported Fire Ant (RIFA) -
My hubby tried a few different things over the years for the numerous ant hills that were popping up through our paved driveway. They would pop up close through other pavers, whether he used liquid or granules. We finally identified they were a specific type of fire ant (as they had the black abdomen) called the Red Imported Fire Ant and read this required the chemical in Ortho Orthene. I shook around the multiple small mounds on the pavers as well as where I saw movement on the pavement figuring they were out in search of food. I was very surprised to see no action from any of thew small mounds, or new small mounds, on the pavers the very next day. I decided to use it in the backyard as I noticed sparse areas around flagstone. Once again, it took one day to see results. NOTES: -Works exceptionally for the Red Imported Fire Ants: for us it was within the 24 hours -Smells like a decomposing rat (it's a bit putrid when you are near it - worth it) -Use when area is dry and not expecting rain -One of my dogs seemed attracted to it in the back yard (digging in the dirt for the smell), he's ok despite digging in the spots. So pleased this worked! The key is correct ant ID as they certainly needed a very specific treatment.

Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer: Because Your Yard Deserves to be a Fire Ant-Free Zone
Fire ants, huh? The little buggers that turn your backyard into a battlefield. You’re just trying to enjoy your Sunday BBQ, and suddenly, BAM, you’re fighting for your life against tiny red demons who seem to think your feet are their personal target practice. Well, guess what? Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer is here to save the day, and it’s not playing around. This stuff is like the fire extinguisher of the insect world, except it works faster and is much better at not causing fires. Let’s break this down: Ortho’s got a secret weapon, it starts working in 60 minutes. That’s right, in the time it takes for you to binge-watch one episode of The Walking Dead, this stuff is already in action, tearing through fire ant colonies like it’s a one-man wrecking crew. And not just the worker ants, oh no. It goes straight for the queen too, because if you want to stop the operation, you go straight to the top, right? Think of it as a tactical strike on the entire fire ant empire. And don’t worry about messing around with complicated instructions. Just sprinkle this 12 oz. of fire ant-fighting magic on the mound and sit back while the ants get their eviction notice. If you’ve got a serious fire ant issue, grab the 2-Pack, because you’re going to want backup. PROS: • Kills the queen: It’s like a game of Ants vs. Us, and guess who’s winning? You, with the queen gone and the rest of her minions scrambling for survival. • Starts working in 60 minutes: It’s like a turbocharged anti-ant missile. If ants had feelings, they’d be seriously bummed right about now. • Easy to use: Just sprinkle it, and BAM, instant karma for the ants. No complicated steps, just results. • Kills mounds: If you’ve got a yard full of fire ant mounds, this stuff is like a party crasher, coming in and taking down all the invitations before they can even spread. • Effective: It works like a charm. If only we could get it to work as quickly on other pests, like that guy who always parks too close to you at the grocery store. CONS: • You might need more than one application: If you’ve got a major infestation, you might need to go back for seconds. But hey, ants aren’t known for being smart. • Can be a little dusty: A small price to pay for watching those pesky ants disappear into oblivion. In short, if you’re tired of feeling like the fire ant king’s personal doormat, Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer is the hero you’ve been waiting for. It’s quick, effective, and gets straight to the point. You’ll be able to enjoy your yard without worrying about fiery critters popping up like uninvited guests. Consider it your personal fire ant bodyguard. Because who doesn’t want that kind of protection?

My Go-To for years!
I’ve been using Raid Ant & Roach Killer 26 for years, and it continues to deliver excellent results. Whether it’s the occasional ant trail in the kitchen or the random roach in the garage, this spray handles the problem quickly and effectively. It kills on contact, and I’ve noticed it also helps prevent pests from coming back for a while. One of the things I appreciate is that it doesn’t leave a heavy chemical smell lingering in the house — it’s noticeable but not overpowering, and it fades relatively fast. The spray nozzle is easy to use and gives good coverage without soaking everything. I’ve tried a few other brands over the years when Raid was out of stock, but I always come back to this one. It just works. If you’re looking for a dependable insect spray that lives up to its claims, this is the one. Highly recommend!

Stinks! But works great!
Recommend wearing gloves and spooning this out: stinks something terrible and is (of course) poison so wearing gloves should be a must. Its expensive but it does not require much at all for application per the directions. Using an old teaspoon to measure & apply the correct amount saves a lot of waste. Again follow the application instructions and these two containers should last a very long, long time. So far, it's completely destroyed every mound I've applied it on.
