Simple to setup โ useful for protecting data backup devices from power interruptions.
Style Name: 700VA/420W Decided to buy UPS after recent experience of a power โbrown-outโ where the power fluctuated enough to cause devices to power up/down multiple times โ not good for NAS (Network Access Storage) devices. I decided not to โsell myself upโ with regard to power spec and try the lowest power output that would comfortably meet the needs of a clean shut-down for my NAS, hence 700VA version. Brick comes with a type-B USB cable for connection to a NAS. This enables the NAS to monitor the state of the UPS and determine if/when to start setting disks to standby. In my case I have a Synology DS212J NAS (quite old tech) but it recognises the UPS when connected and you can customise a delay time before placing the disks of the NAS in offline/standby mode. There are three sockets in each of two banks. One bank is Battery Backup+Surge Protection, the other Surge Protection only. It also provides a USB power output port and RJ45/RJ11 sockets in between the mains socket banks. I keep the protective packing film attached to stop dust entering these since the โbrickโ faces upwards in my installation. Although the brick has keyhole slots cut in the base for screws mounting vertically on a wall, I feel it might be safer (because of its weight) sitting on its feet in the horizontal position. I found the actual mains sockets quite stiff for inserting UK plugs, but since plugs will seldom be removed/inserted this is a minor criticism. Brief instructions were included on the box and a leaflet inside. Once the unit is switched on there is a second button to allow scrolling through the settings shown on an LCD display. The display cycles through power input Volts, power output Volts, charge remaining etc. Testing is simple once everything is connected. Switching off the mains supply to the unit, connected devices should continue to run undisturbed. A double beep sounds at intervals alerting that the mains power is cut and the unit is operating in backup battery power mode. Online advice seems to recommend not discharging the batteries too much. So the UPS is more suitable for allowing clean shutdowns than enabling continued use of devices during a power cut. If the latter is required a larger UPS would be needed. I feel a lot happier about protecting my backup data now in the event of any future power interruptions. โFit and forgetโ tech once it is setup. Pleased with my purchase.

Good solid UPS for home office
This is a battery in a box that will power your computer when the lights go out. Seems solid and simple to use. Shows the voltage flowing in from the wall, state of battery and the current flowing out. Have it set up to power a MACPro and one Monitor on battery and use the other 3 non battery sockets for additional screens. Beats having the MAC restart after power cuts and the annoying restore of Excel and Word files.

Slightly disappointing battery life. Otherwise, seems fine to me
In common with most UPSs listed here, the runtime on battery isn't stated in the item description. I bought the smallest (420W) of these devices and at full power I'd expect 5 or 6 minutes of runtime. Enough for an immediate clean shutdown but not much else. As it happens, I bought this to protect my broadband and some other small items (smarthome hubs and a couple of raspberry Pis) so I'm mostly running at about 10% capacity and would therefore expect this to power everything for maybe 50 minutes. Long enough to keep going through the average power cut. Aside from battery capacity this seems like a decent unit. Plug it in, plug equipment into it, and off you go. The USB interface connects nicely to a Windows machine and the software lets you perform a clean shutdown when the power goes off. I actually have mine connected to a Pi Zero running Network UPS Tools, with the monitoring data fed into Home assistant. NUT lets you schedule shutdowns as you need, if you don't mind Linux-level config file hacking, and home assistant provides nice monitoring of power consumption and estimated runtime on battery. Overall I like this unit. There aren't many cheaper devices and there are a lot of more expensive devices, so this seems like good value for money to me. I've only had it for a few weeks so can't yet comment on long term reliability.

More than adequate for my needs
Bought this in the lowest rating option to power a NAS to protect it from outages and surges. Obviously the importance of units of this sort are more obvious over the longer term, 3 months tells you very little. But it appears to be well made and the display is a nice touch not seen on the lower spec APC units. All indications are it will run my 2 disk Synology DS223J for about 2 hours before shutting down. More than enough, I just need to avoid a hard shutdown if the power goes off. Only down side was that the mains lead is hardwired into the unit so placing it in a cupboard means cutting plug size hole in the back, why not a detachable kettle lead connection or Figure 8? In the end I chopped off the plug and fitted a C14 female kettle plug on the end (Amazon ยฃ3.50). Not ideal but at least it was a much smaller hole that was needed. Besides I had several spare kettle leads of various lengths so avoided using an extension lead. Cyberpower please consider this change, it would also make your unit compatible across different electrical outlet styles, just by changing the lead.

What you need to know, running costs in wattage and real time testing
I purchased the CYBERPOWER BR700ELCD-UK Line-Interactive UPS 700VA/420W, its is quite heavy, the lead acid battery will be most of the weight, the unit came with about 70% charge in the battery and after my initial testing the unit did have to run over night to be fully charged, yes on testing (switching power off at socket) the unit switched over to battery with no adverse affects to my PC. My own problem is the electrical power coming into my home goes off for 2 or 3 seconds and comes back on and could damage my PC in many ways. My set up is to protect my graphics design PC and 43 inch monitor, running at Idle consumes 80w and has a maximum load of around 200w from the wall socket, the Cyberpower unit takes under 3w to run when fully charged (2.4w in my case ), when the power has failed the Cyberpower unit sounds a two beep first alarm every 30 seconds or so and when the battery power is very low sounds a constant beep beep beep beep second alarm, with a constant 80w load (PC at Idle) my run time on battery is over 22 minuets between the first and second alarm and I still have time to shut down the PC beyond the sounding of the second alarm, when running on mains power the LCD panel on the Cyberpower unit indicates with my 80w power consumption my run time on battery will be 34 minuets but as with all electrical devices you have losses as indicated above with my real time testing. I am very happy with the Cyberpower unit and to have purchased one of the higher power units would have been a waste of money as 22 minuets will allow me to save my work and shut down the PC. 2.4watts at 29p/Kwh = ยฃ6.10 per year, small price to pay for safety backup device.

First power cut ....
I've had this unit for 2 months with Mac Studio and Mac Studio Monitor connected (Mac also has several external SSDs). We had our first full power cut, only 3 minutes but enough to disrupt/damage the equipment and work open on it. I was away from my desktop at the time but everything was all logged on and working perfectly with full power reinstated when I inspected, the UPS had partially discharged and was recharging. I've got it set to shut everything down after 15 minutes if unattended. Full marks.

Great UPS, highly recommended!!
I chose this Cyberpower as it has GreenPower Technology, which ultimately extends the life of the UPS battery, but also because it has an LCD display that gives you quite a bit of useful information that the equivalent APC does not; it shows input and output voltage, it shows the current load and it shows the expected battery life on the current load. I like it so much I'm about to swap my rack APC UPS for the Cyberpower unit!!

Faulty on arrival. A dodgy battery??
Charged to 100% as per instructions. Downloaded s/w and connected up to laptop via USB cable. Waited for an hour or so as I was busy and then installed the software. No connection found which is correct as I'd not switched the UPS on yet. While NOT plugged into the mains, I switched the UPS on and the GUI for the power management s.w connected and reported 85% capacity left. So it had lost 15% switched off. That just can't be right!!. If I can't contact the seller, I'll need to return it as either defective battery or defective design. I appreciate the UPS itself puts a load on the battery while on but when only powering itself, it can not be right to show 85% When mains was applied, it went back to 90% so by any measure, 10% had gone in one hour while switched off. Thats a lot of power!!! I'll update later if I get sense from anybody.
