We hit some light rain during the trip, and the waterproof material held up really well. Nothing inside was damp when we unpacked. I am not sure how it would perform in heavy rain though but the material is pretty resistant. The bag itself folds down compactly when not in use, so it doesn’t take up much garage space either.
