I have a Graco X7 Magnum Pro and my max tip size is .017. This is found in the last two numbers of the number on the tip. So a tip marked 517 would mean that the spray tip orifice is .017. The ā€œ5ā€ is half the width of the spray fan pattern. So the 517 tip would spray a pattern that is 10 inches wide (5 x 2) and would spray a paint that requires an .017 orifice which is a very thick paint. The orifice size requirement can be found in the paint specifications. This unit comes with a 515 tip, and I could not find the max tip size but I suspect this is it ā€” .015 ā€” which is a big orifice and can handle almost all latex or oil based paints but I would not use oil base in a sprayer because of clean up. Much easier to run water through it for clean up than mineral spirits. I am currently painting my deck and Iā€™m using Sherwin-Williams Super Deck product which is thicker than normal paint, and Iā€™m using a .015 spray tip. Iā€™m using a 315 on the railings to limit overspray and conserve paint. The 315 will give me a 6ā€ spray pattern and the .015 is within the manufactures specifications for this product. I could have used a .017 but it would have put out a lot more paint and made it a little more difficult to control overspray and conserve paint. I hope that helps. This is a great sprayer at a very good price, but follow the directions and make sure you clean it properly and use pump armor when stored. **Q: If using outside, what sort of over spray does this create? I live on a busy street and don't want to end up getting cars parked nearby with overspray** A: I've been a painter for over 20 yrs and used many sprayers, any paint atomized to spray will float 200 ft and stick to a car with very little breeze. Buy .01 mil plastic and cover any cars within 200 ft in the direction of any breeze, it the wind is blowing towards your back yard, paint quick before it changes direction. usually spray will settle within a 10 to 20 ft area from an outside wall with the most paint being in a 3 ft area below the wall. Plastic is cheaper than painting a nice car for someone else !!! **Q: Is this electric or run by air?** A: Electric sprayer. But it is airless, you just plug it in to a 110 outlet...put the suction hose in a 5 gallon bucket of paint...and paint away! **Q: Can i paint kitchen cabinets with this paint sprayer** A: All comes down to the paint and correct tip.
