Audio-Technica AT81CP 0.6 mil Conical Cartridge for P-Mount Turntables

Purchased to replace worn out/broken cartridge on a Sansui D11 direct drive turntable. Fit perfectly, sounds great, good price/value, perfect function.

I recently acquired a Sony PS-LX340 turntable which had the original cartridge and stylus, and it was a nightmare to try and work with. The counterbalance was not enough, and the anti-skate was barely noticeable in effectiveness. So, I ordered this, and it massively improved the turntable. For setting up, I just unscrewed the original cartridge, put the new one in, and set the holding screw back. I also (per the manual’s instructions) reset the anti-skate and counterweight back to zero. It was a very easy setup process. As for sound quality, I’m not the best at gauging this, but I can tell you this, my father has a Ortofon 2M Red on his turntable, and it sounds just as good. It have a very clear and bright tone, and it also does very well with heavy bass. The only adjustment I had to make to the tone arm was the raise/lowering arm height. It was just a tad too high to play 7-inches, but that was a literal 5 second fix, and I highly doubt you’d have to do that because mine was already tampered with. For 30 dollars, this is an amazing upgrade. It’s more expensive counterpart, the AT85EP, is almost identical to this stylus, but it picks up a bit more clarity, but there is a downside to that, being it picks up every pop and scratch more. For my money, I’d just stick to this one.

Can’t beat the price and the sound. Replaced a Shure cart with new stylus and it was to tinny. The AT sounded great, nice full sound. I would recomend this cartridge.

Bought this to replace cartridge in my Technics SL-QD33 turntable. Perfect replacement for an Azden YM-P50C. Great tone- very pleased.

A great choice for playing older records - I'd've bought the elliptical version if I was playing new records - The AT85EP is the same cartridge with an elliptical stylus for $10 more. These two are the only p-mount cartridges still made by Audio-Technica - but they were pretty much all the same bodies with different styluses. In retrospect I didn't need to change the cartridge just because I bought the turntable with a broken stylus - all the moving parts are in the stylus and the bodies are mostly indestructible. You can get a (swiss made?) 4213-D6 Pfanstiehl Stylus for $15 which might even be a slight upgrade over the AT made conical stylus.

This was a perfect cartridge for my 40 year old Kenwood turntable and very easy to install.

Fixed my kenwood KD-54R that I acquired. Now thanks to this upgrade, its better than my main player upstairs. Wow, the warm rich sound. Amazing.

Reemplazo de mi cartucho para una tornamesa kenwood kd41F, y creo que toda aquella tornamesa con conexión o soporte tipo P le queda. Fácil de intalar y suena muy bien. Recomendable.
