A master at work
Over the years Taiyo Matsumoto’s work ranges from sports manga to the fantastical but always with feeling and breathtaking art. This is the first of three volumes of a manga about manga. This is territory that the masters of manga have covered before, such as Jiro Taniguchi but you don’t need to know anything about the process or history of manga as an artform or how it is made to appreciate this story. Themes such as regret, aging and the purpose of art emerge here. The format of the book is the same hardback design and paper as used in the brilliant Sunny. This will appeal to those that count Sunny among his best work. Take your time when reading this.
