Hank Haney: ESPN Golf Schools - The 3-Club Tour

Update Dec. 20, 2012: All of my original review below still holds true, EXCEPT for my refernce to its low price. This product must be out of general circulation for the current prices ($100 new, $44+ used). In March of 2009, it was $13.49 new.First, for perspective, I own quite a few instructional golf DVDs, dating back to Jack's "Golf My Way" on VHS tape. I've also had quite a few golf lessons over the years. There is no substitute for one-on-one golf lessons, if you really want to improve your golf game. But instructional videos can fill in gaps between lessons with helpful reminders. The single biggest difference between this DVD and all the others is its ability to be viewed over and over and over, without having the remote in your hand to fast-forward through multiple, mind-numbing interludes. Every other instructional DVD I have owned - no matter how outstanding the material - contains unneccessarily time-consuming interludes, even as they lead into possibly useful guidance. That may not be annoying the first, or possibly the second, time you view a DVD; but after a while it becomes monotonous and annoying. For instance, Leadbetter's videos are outstanding in content; but after the first viewing it's difficult to endure the chit-chat that permeates the videos. To subject myself to multiple viewings, I want the meat and potatoes - not chit-chat and time-wasting interludes. This DVD cuts to the chase. Helpful every-day hints, on very important aspects of a very difficult game. What makes this video an outstanding value is its price. The low price makes this a no-brainer. Hope this helps.

The DVD goes over the main clubs used in a round of golf; the driver, wedges and putter.The driver portion is good with some solid advice on how to detect and correct flaws in one's swing. It is not really a swing builder for a beginner with a driver in hand in my opinion but...as said, it does really help find flaws in your swing and some drills to correct.In the wedge portion, Hank does a really good job of showing the flop, pitch, chip and sand shots. It is super good. I never had very good fundamentals in the short game but now I am MUCH more solid. He shows ball position, stance, swing, etc.The putting portion is also full of valuable information and drills.

I was most impressed by this DVD.The instruction that Hank Haney provides in this DVD is in three parts; the Driver, the Wedge and the Putter. He claims, and I do not doubt him , that 75% of the shots played by professional golfers are with these clubs. The figure is possibly higher for amateurs. With better use of these clubs Mr Haney sees the prospect of a significant improvement in the scores of amateur players.He explanations are first rate. They fully explain the reason for errant shots from each club; something some other coaches are seem reluctant to do for fear of over-complicating their presentation. I was most impressed with this coaches ability to avoid oversimplifying the lesson, but at the same time he does not make each lesson impossibly detailed.I tried some ideas out on the driving range the day after I saw the DVD and found it immediately helpful.I particularly liked the focus on the back of the left hand leading the clubface to an impact that is correctly aligned with the target, for not only the driver, but the wedge and putter as well.I have watched many instructional dvd's and rate this amongst the best.I also like Simon Holmes Digital Golf School. See my review.By the way, if you want to watch great golf, all the Ryder Cup DVD's are excellent as are the 1986 Masters, 1997 Masters and 2006 British Open.

It is the basics.... maybe too basic (hence 4 stars) but a good instructional DVD for the money!

Great instructional video. Has helped me. Still working on the swing but at least now I know what to work to correct.
