Seben Super Zoom 31,7mm (1.25") Telescope Eyepiece 8-24mm

Received this impressively quickly for something shipping from Europe; with a nice container that keeps the lens safe. The lens itself is a nice object, solidly built and easy to use, fitting into my telescope's focuser snugly and securely. I am using it with a fast scope (F5) and really see no issue with the view quality through it (there is fringing at the very edge of the field of view (FoV) aside from the very edge the view is clear and distinct throughout). Although not a para-focal lens (staying in focus as you zoom in and out) only slight focusing adjustments are need to bring objects back into focus. Although I will admit, and accept the logic and arguments of the experts, that this is not a replacement for a set of good lenses; it is considerably better than the stock Plossl lenses I got with my telescope and as good as any of the lenses I have used to date, so far as I can tell (I freely admit to being a very amateur astronomer who cannot afford the pricey gear sadly, but have used some Kellner and 'good' Plossl's borrowed from others). The FoV does reduce from 8mm through to 24mm, at 8mm its very good, and at 24mm I had no issue with the reduction, appearing to be only slightly less than the FoV on my other lenses. No issues with eye relief (distance from lens to eye for a conformable view) using the lens, but this a very personal factor. The main advantage of this lens is making viewing quick and painless, as there is far less faffing around once your telescope is setup, and frankly it makes viewing more fun. I am hoping to see if my kids are more disposed to using this than watching me change lenses of an evening. Also there is 'bang for your buck' factor; for the price paid I am extremely happy with this lens considering the view quality I have seen from other single lenses that apparently fall within £5-10 of the cost of this zoom lens, add in the convenience factor while using it makes it great value to my mind. Simply put for myself, and I stress again I am at the amateur end of the astronomy 'swimming pool', this is a good value lens that makes the hobby more fun.

Excellent lens for the less than professional astronomer. Very reasonable wide angle of view and very good eye relief. You would need to pay very much more to get a slightly better result.

Received this SEBEN ZOOM EYEPIECE very quickly just a few days from ordering it, it was shipped Europe with a large plastic solid container that keeps the eyepiece safe and secure. I am using it with a SKYWATCHER EXPLORER 130/900 and really see no issue with the view quality what so ever and even if its not a para-focal lens only slight focusing adjustments are needed to bring objects back into focus. Although I will admit, and accept the logic and arguments of the experts, that this is not a replacement for a set of good lenses, it is considerably better than the stock Super Plossl lenses I got with my telescope (they are absolutely rubbish). The main advantage of this lens is making viewing quick and comfortable, as there is no messing around with other eyepieces, around once your telescope is set-up, and also less movement its mean you have more time spending looking at your favourite celestial object. It is bang on for my budget and don`t get me wrong not everything cheap is rubbish this eyepiece is the X factor for the price I paid I am extremely happy with this lens considering the view quality I have seen from other single lenses, add in the convenience factor while using it makes it great value. I am quite new to astronomy but since spending hundreds on eyepieces with fixed apertures, I decided to try a low cost zoom. This arrived within a short time. There are some specs of something to the edge of the lens when looking through -- not sure I'll be able to remove them but they don't appear to show up when looking at the moon and stars. Last night, viewing was pretty good, but not absolutely perfect. However, the moon, close to being full, looked amazing through this eyepiece. Zoomed out, the moon filled the field of view -- and you watched as the moon majestically moves across the sky, in awe - really impressive. Then, zooming in, with little change in focus on the telescope (A Skywatcher 250P), the moon detail was impressive, and very bright - I do need to sort a moon filter out. Considering around the £50 mark, this is an impressive eyepiece, especially for moon watching -- zoom smooth and solid, edge to edge clarity, I thought was very good. I can't comment on other more expensive zoom eyepieces but this one to me, a bargain and amazing quality. If I only ever use for moon viewing, it's going to be very handy. The one downside of astronomy is changing eyepieces when viewing something that close, so this just fits perfectly and zoom range is also perfect. Recommended (if you get one like mine - no idea on overall consistency for quality from the supplier/manufacturer). I had the choices and went for pretty much the cheapest as I didn't expect too much from a zoom lens..... how wrong was I!

This is a very sturdy eyepiece, with for the price a very solid movememt. In my view provides a good compliment to a set of fixed eyepieces but not really a replacement. My main reason for purchase was to do some lunar. / planetary / solar observing to speed up the process of getting the ideal view view at high / low magnification without the issue of aligning the telescope after swapping eyepieces. For this roll this eyepiece is great. The ability to thread the eyepiece onto a T-mount is great and makes taking photographs with a DSLR very simple and hassle free. In my view this zoom eyepiece should compliment a set of fixed eyepieces but is not a full replacement for them, there are certainly more expensive zoom pieces out there with larger fields of view over all magnifications that do position themselves as complete replacement zoom eyepieces not all have a thread for photography though. Delivery was prompt within a week and the item was well protected in both soft and hard casing. Overall this eyepiee is great value for money if you want a casual eyepiece that oofers good views and the ability to get some quick photos.

Arrived on time, item looked well made but zoom action sounded and felt a bit rough. I was worried it might fail in use later on, particularly in very cold weather, so returned for refund. Decided to buy Baader zoom instead, more expensive but hopefully no issues with build quality.

Very impressed - used with 12" DOB and 2" to 1.25" adapter. Also used with 6" reflector 130mm. Expected the zoom to cause aberration but find that it performs close to par with fixed lenses. Good FOV with plenty of eye relief, lot easier then using fixed lenses with small aperture lenses. It performs particularly well with a 2" revelation 2 x barlow and 2" to 1.25 adapter- the optics are very well matched to the barlow. The exterior finish is identical to the revelation? On sighting up with the 6" reflector makes it much easier to target as can start with a wide star field and zoom in. Solidly made and zooms smoothly. Update in 2018 - also using this now on 8" SCT - have become aware that the same eyepiece is also sold under other brand names including often at higher prices. One other tip - only recently become aware that under the rubber cup are the threads to fit a DLSR T-piece so can be used for zoom for astrophotography through the scope!!

This is a sturdy, well made product. Seben deliver quickly and protect the eyepiece with plenty of packaging. After reading a few astronomy forums and noting the positive feedback on this Seben zoom eyepiece when used with the ever popular solar telescope, I decided to give it a try with my own PST. The zoom is smooth and easy to operate, the view is clear and sharp. On my own PST the focusing deteriorates beyond 10mm, though they were never meant to handle high magnification. Between 24mm and 10mm the seeing is great though. This zoom eyepiece is perfect for anyone who doesn't want to waste time & effort switching eyepieces, especially if you have a grab & go 'scope and a Coronado PST in particular. You will not be sacrificing quality and you'll be saving money too, compared to buying a selection of eyepieces.

El zoom es una buena opción a tener en cuenta principalmente si no tienes muchos oculares. Con este zoom 8-24 te permite con un bajo coste tener varios oculares en uno. Asi que es muy prático. La calidad de un buen ocular individual no es superable pero tener este zoom y comprar más tarde oculares individuales pero de los buenos creo que es un buen camino a elegir para telescópios buenos. Para telescópios pequeños este zoom es suficiente para todo lo que sea del 8mm al 24mm. Una barlow 2X se aconseja como complemento. El material es bueno. Me ha gustado la compra y es lo que utilizo más en un telescópio refractor de 70mm de apertura.

Als Anfänger habe ich mir dieses Okular gekauft, um ein Gefühl für die verschiedenen Vergrößerungen zu bekommen ohne gleich für alle Brennweiten ein eigenes zu kaufen. Mögliche Schwächen gegenüber Festbrennweiten wollte ich bewusst in Kauf nehmen. Im Vergleich zu den verschiedenen Okularen, die bei Teleskopen im Preissegment um 300€ dabei sind (die ich getestet habe), bietet dieses Zoom eine erheblich höhere Bildqualität in allen Zoombereichen. Der Fokus ändert sich mit der Brennweite nur gering, so muss nur minimal zwischen 24 und 8 mm nachgeregelt werden. Bei 8 mm Brennweite wird das Bild natürlich etwas dunkler, aber immer noch akzeptabel und um "Welten" besser als bei den einfachen "Zugaben". Die Verarbeitung macht einen guten Eindruck. Das Zoomen selber ist mit einem straffen, aber nicht schwergängigen Dreh für mich sehr passend. Ich bin froh, dieses Zoom-Okular gekauft zu haben und bin rundum zufrieden.

Alors là je suis surpris de la netteté et le zoom en temps réel est extrêmement pratique ! Jupiter et Saturne sont visibles parfaitement ! Quand vous tournez la molette pour changer de mm, une légère mise au point est a faire mais léger. Rapport qualité prix et bien franchement foncez, et son poid est correcte pour un Dobson 254 mm.

Appena arrivato ho pensato ad un errore: la vista, il tatto e la fattura mi hanno fatto pensare ad un oggetto di "qualità molto superiore", per il prezzo pagato mi aspettavo poco più che un utile giocattolo, invece questo oculare non solo vale i soldi spesi, ne vale molto di più! L'ho subito provato per 2 notti di seguito e non ho praticamente utilizzato nessun altro oculare, Preciso e luminoso anche nelle aperture più piccole ( 8 mm ), la regolazione avviene senza forzature e non c'è il rischio di modificare l'assetto della montatura. Lo consiglio a tutti, in particolare a chi inzia e non vuole perdere troppo tempo nel cambio degli oculari. Comodo e robusto anche il portaoculare. Imballo essenziale e sicuro. Rapporto qualità/prezzo eccezionale. Mooolto soddisfatto !!!

Material bueno, facil de usar y manejo increible, lo recomiendo al 100%, tener varios aumentos en un mismo ocular es lo mas comodo que me podia haber imaginado, he dejado los demas practicamente de lado. Viene muy bien protegido, en un cilidro bastante resistente. No os arrepentireis.
