I got this because I curious about what it might taste like since it was one of the original ingredients in both Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola (thus the Cola portion of the name). Mostly it was used for the caffeine content of both drinks but also in small amounts for the flavoring, which makes much more sense as to why they used so much sugar to mask the bitter flavors of what they were using.For those wondering about the taste, yes, it is bitter and mostly NO it does not taste like any cola you ever had (though there is perhaps a mild hint of it but by mild I mean extremely mild as in most people probably wouldn't be able to detect the flavoring for all of the bitterness). As for it giving a "pep" to people, yes it probably does because Kola nut contains about 3% caffeine, so yeah anyone thinking they are getting energy from some health benefit... not so much, it is most likely the caffeine. Beyond the claimed health benefits studies seem to suggest that it is not without risks (not the least of which is having no idea how much caffeine you are ingesting from it).For me, these things tend to work against my wanting to ingest it on a regular basis at all. In regard to satiating my curiosity about the taste of it, this was fine, but it is not a thing I would readily add to food or drinks and if I wanted a "pick me up" I'd probably opt for tea or coffee instead since neither taste anything near as bitter as this does. This is not something I would ever get again.

Well, its bitter. If you are looking for the usual cola drink flavor, it is not there. I don't like it on there own, but I mix it with my morning drink and it gives me a boost of energy. I don't feel too much bitterness when it is mixed with the other goodies. It is worth to try.
