Pushing the Performance Limit of AM08 Pro
The AM08 Pro packs a top-of-the-line APU chip from the last generation – Ryzen 9 6900HX – into a mini PC footprint. This chip is usually used in thick gaming laptops, so it is interesting to see how it performs in a small desktop box. Average users can benefit from the easy mode selection knob on top of this machine. According to the manufacturer, the Silent, Auto, and Performance modes correspond to power consumptions of 20-30, 30-40, and 40-55 W. The performance mode should work for most casual gamers without worrying about breaking the system. For advanced users, some simple tuning can reveal the full potential of this power box. To unlock BIOS-coded variables such as the boost duration and power limit, we first need to enter the BIOS and go to Advanced AMD CBS SMU Common Options. Here you will find a lot of things set to Auto by the manufacturer, which means that a default limit value has been set and cannot be changed in the OS by the software. To play it safe, we can change the System Configuration to 54 W, change PPT Control and STAPM Control to Manual, and enable STAPM Boost options. You will see that all the manual values are hardcoded to zero, which means that they are currently unlocked and has no limit. There isn’t much need to touch the voltage controls unless you want to spend hours fine-tuning the system to gain maybe a tiny little more juice out of the computer. The 6900HX chip has a Tjmax (max junction temperature limit) of 95 °C, according to AMD. This is what you will get by leaving it to Auto. If you change the TjMax option to Manual, you will find that it is hardcoded to 87 °C, and the system will be slightly more throttled to keep the chip below this temperature. In Windows, we then use UXTU to control the performance tuning. By setting an Extreme preset, we essentially push to the very end of what the thermal and electric systems can do in this computer. First, we test the CPU performance using CineBench R20. Auto mode gives 4564 (multi-core) and 601 (single-core), which is already impressive. The older AM06Pro carrying a 4800U has about 80% computing power of this 6900HX, and the graphics capability is less than 60% of the RDNA2-powered GPU in the current system. Setting the knob to Performance mode gives a slight performance bonus but much heavier noises. What really changes the game is the fully unlocked state. The multi-core performance increases by 20% to 5489 compared to Auto. This score has exceeded many beefy gaming laptops carrying the same chip. The GPU performance is on par with a discrete GeForce GTX 1050 3GB. However, it is still far away from the Radeon RX 6400 card despite the same core configuration. This is likely due to the power/electrical limitations and a lack of dedicated GDDR6 VRAM, which bottlenecks data exchange. Next, we test the power draw of the system with the unlocked UXTU Extreme profile. When the computer is idle, the system power draw from the outlet is 10-12 W. When stressed by FurMark (768p 2X MSAA), the APU package draws 60-62 W with the GPU overclocked to 2.6 GHz. In this state, the outlet reads 100-108 W of power draw. The chip temperature stays around 88 °C. Using FurMark CPU Burner, the APU package stabilizes at 50 W, with all cores reaching 3.9-4.0 GHz and temperature at 95 °C. Due to the high CPU workload, the chip is thermally throttled. If the CPU and the GPU are burned at the same time, the GPU clock can stabilize around 2.4-2.5 GHz. The CPU clock is reduced to about 1.3-1.4 GHz to make room for the GPU. The APU package draw is at about 74 W, and the CPU temperature stays between 95 and 95.5 °C. The system power draw at the outlet reaches a whopping 119 W, which exceeds the full capacity of the power brick written on the label! It is worth noting that the system is unstable under such an extreme load, and there is a good chance that the power will be dropped after a few minutes. Conclusions: While the system design can be improved, the AM08 Pro is a competitive performance mini PC that is more than capable of handling everyday tasks and casual-to-mid-scale gaming. Pros: • High CPU and GPU computing power packed in a small compartment • Good connectivity with 2.5 GbE • Easily serviceable and upgradable • Advanced users can play with the BIOS settings and gain a significant performance increase Cons: • The fans are too loud under load and can be optimized with better thermal solutions • Thermal dissipation in the storage chamber should be improved as there is no airflow to cool the RAM, M.2 drive, and 2.5” SATA drive (which directly stacks on top of the M.2). • It would be great if the power button won’t rotate with the performance selection knob

Great little machines, but the manufacturer does not honor it's warranty!
Love these machines, bought three for my kids, they are powerful little machines. But the manufacturer does NOT honor it's 1 year manufacturer warranty. Their support consists of a "support" page which is mostly ads for their products and a web form to submit your issue. But they NEVER respond. I had a fan bearing going out, tried to contact them repeatedly for almost two months. Had also bought the Asurion 2 year protection plan but it won't let you submit a claim until after the Manufacturer warranty expires. Thus I was not able to get any help until the fan died and it overheated and fried the processor or motherboard just as the warranty expired. I was then able to finally submit through Asurion who did repair it. But what would have been a much cheaper fan replacement, resulted in a far more substantial rebuild because Kamrui does not respond to warranty claims.

Fantastic PC for multiple uses!
The AceMagician AM08Pro is a fantastic little powerhouse, capable of plenty of different use cases. I initially purchased this PC to replace my wife’s aging Intel NUC, but after getting it up and running I quickly changed my mind. The machine comes with Win11Pro preloaded and that’s all! No bloatware or superfluous junk to slow it down. It’s very capable right out of the box as the 512GB NVMe is plenty fast, but it can easily be swapped/upgraded. I swapped the drive with a 1TB 980Pro and installed Ubuntu Desktop 22.04.2 LTS. Surprise, all the hardware worked including the Wi-Fi without any additional drivers. Next, I installed Docker and moved some of my containers to the PC. Everything just rocked. With 32GB of RAM the machine had plenty of resources for all my containers, including a pretty demanding Minecraft Curseforge server. After running Ubuntu for a few days, I put the original NVMe back in, booted into Windows, and installed Steam. I installed a handful of my favorite games: Age of Empires IV, CS GO, Company of Heroes, Half-Life 2, etc. They all played very smooth at 1080P on my 24” 144MHz gaming monitor. Overall, I’m super impressed with this PC. Performance and connectivity are great. The small size means it will fit anywhere and look good. Upgrading the storage and memory is very easy, but out of the box there really is no need. I’m very happy with my purchase and will likely buy another, to replace my wife's NUC. ;-)

Chinesse Mini PC with Malware
I very rarely write reviews on anything - if I like it I keep it and if I don't I send it back. I adore this little PC from China and I think it does a great job. Personally I was scared when I read the articles online about the Malware that was preinstalled and I did jump to conclusion like everyone else. I can't speak to the fact that mine shipped with malware/viruses but I've worked with computers long enough to know to nuke the hard drive upon delivery and to reinstall a "clean version" of Windows. I did that and I was off to the races without any problems. Can this PC play 2024 AAA Rated Games like a full desktop gaming PC with a top of the line graphics cards - NO. But it's not intended to it does play AAA rated games at lower setting but it has integrated graphics that are solid in my opinion. Honestly Age Magic reached out to me when the problem was found and offered me a full refund but I declined. These systems are handled by 3rd Party shippers in Asia so who knows who inserted the malware and I do believe people received compromised systems. A person taking the time to delete all partitions, and reinstall Windows shouldn't have any problems in my opinion. This is an excellent system for the money.

Mini Powerhouse
This review is for the AceMagician with Model number AM08PRO which is the Ryzen 9 6900HX, 32GB DDR5 (Dual Channel) 512GB NVMe SSD Mini Computer. I feel it necessary to clarify this as Amazon has a tendency to group all reviews from the same manufacture under one product listing and this item was no exception. I wish they would fix this but please keep in mind the product I am about to review when reading further. Based on prices and other specs mentioned in the previous reviews, I believe this may be the first review for this particular model. The Mini PC was well packaged and arrived with the specs advertised. I have purchased an AceMagician in the past and had a good experience but that was a much lower end model. I was excited to see how they brought their experience to a higher end model “gaming” PC. As a quick spoiler, I was not disappointed. For background I am not a heavy gamer so I did not perform any benchmarks or install any games. If this is a deal breaker for you then please stop reading. What I am interested in is quick boots, Quick program opening, fast shutdowns and restarts, and most importantly, the ability to run Linux. I have setup this machine to dual boot into Windows 11 and Debian 12. Everything works as expected and the installs were fairly painless but not without issues as I will outline below. As I do with ANY new PC, my first task was to startup the machine, go through the setup, and quickly evaluate performance. As this was a windows machine, I also verify the OS activates and check to ensure it does so with a digital license. When starting up for the first time, I do NOT connect the PC to the network and in my case the OS was showing “Windows is activated with a digital license”. At that point I felt safe re-installing windows which is also my standard procedure on any new machine. This is simply for security, privacy, and most importantly to remove any “bloatware” that may have shipped on the computer. Windows 11 installed and activated without a hitch, but after startup there were several devices that needed drivers. My first step was to download and install the AMD Processor/Graphics driver. This was as simple as going to AMD’s driver portal and selecting the correct package. Processors with graphics >> AMD Ryzen Pro Processors >> AMD Ryzen 9 Pro 6000 Series Mobile Processors >> AMD Ryzen 9 PRO 6950H. Yes this is not the exact model number but the downloaded program inspects the hardware and downloads the appropriate version. After performing these steps, the only device remaining with an issue was listed as a “network device”. This is the WiFi 6 PCIe card. Keep this in mind if you are attempting a re-install over WiFi as you will either need to download the driver (see next paragraph) and load it during setup, or install using the built in 2.5 GBE Ethernet. Regarding that WiFi adapter driver, this was a PITA finding the correct one and you don’t want to install the wrong one like I did which caused a blue screen of death. I needed to reinstall windows after that and this issue alone is why I’m only giving this product 4 stars. Simply put, I expect a new PC to come with modern hardware that has drivers available on Windows Update. The fact this one didn’t, leads me to believe it is an outdated or otherwise “rare” card. For those following along, let me save you some time. Mine was a Realtek 8852BE Lan WiFi PCI-E NIC. The only place I was able to find a driver that worked was on the Lenovo Website. While other sites listed the file available for download, I NEVER trust any site for drivers that I haven't heard of or trusted in the past. Lenovo seemed like a safe bet, and the driver I found dated January of 2022 did work. I have not tested WiFi performance so take that for what it’s worth. So at this point I ran Windows Update and let it do its thing. The system updated a few minor packages and everything was running smoothly with all devices having drivers. As I don’t really use Windows, I did all of this simply for this review. I then moved on to installing Debian 12. The first step to installing Debaian 12 in a dual boot environment was to shrink the C drive partition within Windows. I did this using Manage Computer >> Disk Manager. By highlighting the Windows "C" partition, you can “shrink” it. How much space you free up for the Linux install is entirely up to you. Once the blank “free” partition was created, I booted into the Debian installer and went through the motions. I selected “largest area of free space” as the install location and “use entire partition” for the setup. The rest was pretty much all defaults but if you are using Linux you are probably advanced enough that I won’t go into any details here. After the install completed, I went into the bios and changed the boot partition to Debian 12. The GRUB boot-loader added windows to the list so I can select either one although Debian is the default and will load in 5 seconds if you don’t make another selection. Keep in mind that when I say select the partition this is NOT the boot order. Under the first slot of the boot order the only option is the internal SSD which if I recall still said something about Windows. The setting that needs to be changed is lower down at the bottom of the same screen. It will say Windows but if you highlight it and click enter you will be presented with the option to change it to Debian 12. After all this, I had a snappy and stable MiniPC which dual booted Windows 11 and Debian 12. The WiFi driver was also an issue in Debian but finding the driver was actually easy. Nowhere near as difficult as in Windows. So as I said, I’m not a gamer but both Windows and Debian are running smoothly. I have had zero issues with crashes, slowdowns or any other issues. I am using the two rear HDMI ports as well as the front USB C port to run three monitors at full resolution. I wish it had a few more USB ports, but I have connected an 8-port USB hub which functions perfectly. I have USB Speakers, a microphone, web camera and a few other devices plugged into the hub. All of this is what is most important to me. I do plan on installing a few other flavors or Linux sometime down the road, but I wanted to get my initial impressions of this tiny powerhouse out there. I dabble in ProxMox and think this machine would be perfect for that with it's 16 threads. Since ProxMox is based on Debian there should be zero issues. A few other notes. This device has a switch that allows you to select Low Power, Auto, and performance settings. Best I can tell, these settings only impact the speed of the fans. I have mine set to wide open. It also has a set of RGB lights which are not controllable. There is no software or switches to turn them on/off. So ,unless you physically open the case and disconnect them, they will be ON all the time. Lastly the side panel is held in place by magnets. The magnets are strong and I never worry about the cover falling off. Removing the cover gives you access to the NVMe drive, RAM, and a second slot for a 2.5” SSD which is currently unpopulated. There are two (2) 16GB SODIMM Ram sticks which provides Dual Channel Memory. So in closing, while I have not tested WiFi or Bluetooth, I am impressed with this tiny PC. I look forward to putting it through additional testing and may add additional comments to this review down the road. So far I am impressed and can recommend it.

Maximum Performance
Purchased on a lightning deal to get the best price and it is well worth every dollar - outstanding performance! Quick and easy set up - worked perfectly out of the box. Set up Win11 as shipped, removed the SSD and replaced with a larger SSD, then installed Linux Mint. Fully operational in a matter of an hour or less and no compatibility issues whatsoever. Only (minor) detail that I'd like to change is ability to turn off the RGB lights - not really my thing, but not terribly distracting since it sits behind my dual monitors. "Performance" switch seems to not do anything but change the color of the power button. Really nicely packaged too - nice attention to detail. American Megatrends BIOS is easy to navigate and change as needed.

Affordable Flight Sim PC
I bought this PC primarily to use with Microsoft flight simulator, which has some specific graphic card requirements for the most realistic experience. This unit did not disappoint - smooth rendering and high resolution without lag. I've also had one interaction with support. They use WhatsApp which works, but it takes about a day to get a response if you are in eastern timezone. They fixed my problem which was due to an issue with Microsoft Windows, not the hardware itself. Overall happy with purchase.
