Heavy duty tamper did not disappoint. The material feels sturdy and reliable. And the spring loaded feature makes using it full-proof especially for someone like me who has no sense of what level is. It is compatible with a 54mm portafilter and is snug enough to use mess free. I love the appearance of the rings it leaves behind. Overall a very easy to use and versatile product and worth the money.

Wish they made this a little bit wider. First, the build quality is good. The only problem I have with this tamper is that I wish it was a little bit wider. I have the Breville Barista Express Impress and the portafilter is 54mm while this tamper is 53.3 mm. When I press down the tamper, a significant amount of coffee grounds spill over making a mess. Not a big deal, but still an inconvenience and messy.

I had this same tamper for my Breville Barista Express, so when I upgraded it seemed like no-brainer to get one for 58mm. In short, it's a great tamper. It's designed so that people, like me, can tamp properly. It works incredibly well because it's self leveling, and calibrated. So you kinda have to go out of your way to get an uneven tamp with inconsistent pressure. Which, again, for people like me is a blessing. The one criticism I have is that grinds do have a tendency to get stuck on the side of the tamping plate... which can make the calibrated handle feel a little hung up. Simply clean off the grinds on the side and it's good to go.

I started to have difficulty with the Ikape pressing down. I contacted the manufacturer via Amazon. They replied quickly considering they are in a different country. Once we determined the exact model number via email and photos, they sent me a video to troubleshoot and I was able to get the tamper to work correctly immediately. Shout out to their customer service. In a world where it is practically impossible to actually communicate with a real person when you need assistance, it was a pleasant surprise. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the company and their product!

This review is for the 39.25mm version which I bought to use with the Flair Classic. Despite a pretty decent feeling quality build, unfortunately for this specific manual espresso maker, this tamper kind of sucks functionally. The bottom stainless steel base is too thick and if you use 14-16g dose of dark roast beans which are very fluffy and take up a lot of space in the portafilter, you won't have enough room for the base to sit in the portable filter and rest on the self-leveling balance pad. You would have to go down to 13g or so which I don't want to do. So you think, okay it's fine, you can just manually level. Well, that isn't very easy to do either because that's some side-to-side wiggle play on the tamping mechanism and that makes it very very difficult to tamp so everything is level. You're better off using the stock plastic tamper. For comparison, I also ended up buying a Normcore V4.1 mini later 39mm later and that works much better. The base is thinner which works better for me because I can dose up to 15g on dark roast and 16g on medium roast and still be able to use the self-leveling edges. The self-leveling balance pad is also smaller in circumference, unless like the huge a** one on the IKAPE, and you can actually do the initial tamp with the stock funnel still on the portafilter. TL;DR: At first glance, the IKAPE tamper seems like a nice hefty build, but it's dimensions do not seem well made for practical use with the 40mm Flair Classic portafilter. You're better off getting the Normcore V4.1 mini or possible the non mini version.

I ordered this to try and improve my coffee and try and get consistent tampering.. The simply fact is, it easily jams on the push down which then means there is no spring compression and no consistency.
