It sucks! :)
Had to say it :) I have a home with both carpeting, hardwood floors, and area rugs. And I have six cats. So Iโve got a combination of every surface with fur and normal dirt. So far this vacuum has done a phenomenal job cleaning all of the surfaces with ease. Iโm amazed at how much it picks up. I know some people complained about the weight, but I have not noticed that to be an issue as it has a bit of self propulsion. I like the fact that you can change out the filters, or wash them at least, to keep the airflow clean. Additionally the vacuum has a few ways to use it with the hose and attachments and those are simple to switch out. I know there have been some concerns about reliability, so I canโt speak to that yet, but will repost if anything happens. So overall, I am very happy with my purchase. I also purchased this in the Amazon open box. No problems at all with the product.

This Shark Vertex vacuum SUCKS perfectly!
Seriously, it has some powerful sucking action going on. :) The three best things about this vacuum compared to my old Shark are (1) it does NOT wrap hair around the roller, (2) the cannister detaches from the base to reach high places without it tipping over, and (3) it surprisingly has a self-propel push which makes vacuuming an oriental rug a breeze. That was a bonus I didn't know I was getting! My old model was like pushing and pulling a stubborn donkey. It killed my back! I seldom write reviews, but I had to do this one, because it is a life-changing appliance that I didn't know I would appreciate so much. You know you're old when a vacuum is worth talking about. LOL.

This is a MACHINE! Love Love!
Wow wow wow! What a machine! It is a little heavy but I want something heavy duty and not something flimsy that will only last a year. My last Shark lasted 6 years! Love this product.

Great for long dog hair and small grit dirt from their paws. No wrap feature is true.
What can I say but after vacuuming 3 rooms Iโm totally in love with this vacuum. I used the detachable unit with connected hose to reach underneath several pieces of furniture. Everything clicks together and reconnects easily. I emptied the debris after each room just to see what it picked up. I have 3 large long haired dogs and a cat . It did a thorough job with the hair and gritty dirt from their paws.No dog hair wrapped around the rollers. I like the foward movement when choosing both carpet settings. The unit runs much quieter than other vacs Iโve used. My only wish would be a retractable cord feature.

Absolute garbage stay far, far away
This specific Shark model was on sale for $70 off and was the unit I bought. It's hard to determine the actual advantages of one model over another, so even though I read the specs on a lot of them, I still wasn't sure what to buy. So this unit. It ships very well packed. Shark gets points for packaging. Most of it was recyclable. The vacuum itself is easy to assemble. The parts snap together. What are the pros of this? It has good suction. And I've found it works better on my thick Karastan carpet - better than the old NV352 I discarded. It also has a long cord so you don't have to keep moving to a different plug. As with the other Shark products, the vacuum unit detaches for working on high areas. The hose on this specific unit is much easier to deal with than the 352, which was like pulling teeth to stretch it out. The head unit is also easy to maneuver into tight spots, which makes cleaning a lot easier. The unit also has a no-hair rolled to prevent long hair from fouling the brush. That's nice, especially if you have lots of long hair falling out all over the place. The noise is loud, but it isn't irritating. It's in the lower range so not terribly obnoxious. It's always amazing just how much dirt is on my carpets. I have to vacuum at least 2 days per week, usually 3 or 4. It's also satisfying to see all of the mess it picks up. The vacuum has an extraordinarily long 5 year warranty - keep your receipt and all documentation. The unit has three different pile-height settings. There is a bare floor setting and a high and low pile setting. The bare floor setting works great, which is not always the case. There is also a 5 LED light bar which I have found very useful for identifying cat litter. The cons. This unit is HEAVY. About 14 or 15 pounds, so it requires strength to move it. As it has three rollers (brushes) you need to select the right carpet setting. If you don't you will find yourself having to force the vacuum along the carpet. The other issue is that the head is crazy flexible, so if you are trying to vacuum straight ahead, you will be constantly fighting to keep it straight. The last 'con' is that the dust collection bin is small. This just means you have to empty it more often, and that might be something that pushes a buyer away. So far, these issues aside, it's working for the purpose intended.

Don't do it
First of all, I am/was a very loyal Shark fan. I've had several, my older model Shark vacuum is 10 years old, still works but doesn't have as much suction as it used to. After much consideration, because in this economy, $300-$400 for a vacuum is crazy. I finally gave in and purchased this newer version. I absolutely despise this vacuum with every fiber of my being. I bought it in October. I've attempted to use it 3 times and just end up bringing my older one out. The newer version has 3 settings for floors. Bare, medium and high pile. If you have any kind of rug, ANY kind, big, small, doesn't matter and doesn't matter what setting you use, the vacuum will not go over the rug. I have everything from a 12x15 in my livingroom to smaller 6x9 and 2x3, etc...no setting works on any of them. Also, if this vacuum ever does get stopped up at the floor level where the dirt initially goes in, you're out of luck because it does not come apart. My older one had the snap off cover for easy access. If I could return this, I absolutely would. I tried to keep it thinking it would grow on me but all it does it makes me mad every time I try to use it. So now my $400 vacuum will sit in a closet and I'm off to buy a different brand as I'm giving up on Sharks for awhile.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS VAC. However, brush roll stopped working within first year.
