Review: Shhh. Keep it quiet. Let the parrots buy Redline - The Tacoma forums are full of elitist clowns who love to spout how great Redline is... Unfortunately, time and time again modern society proves to value expense over function. It's mind boggling. This is not that. This stuff works. I recently bought my first Toyota truck, a well cared for 2002 5 lug Tacoma with 132k miles. I change fluids in everything I buy so I went to the forums and what did I see? Redline Redline Redline. Yeah? Well Redline is $90 a gallon so Redline can get bent. Once again proving fools and their money are easily separated. So I did more research, read about gl4 vs gl5, with GL-4 being yellow metals safe & all that. Turns out not a lot of companies produce GL-4. Wasn't gonna get "trained" for a $90 gallon of gear lube so I decided to go with this stuff. Whats crazy is when I dumped the "old" fluid it was nearly crystal clear, demonstrating it had clearly been serviced recently, most likely just before I bought it. What's even crazier is the immediate difference it made switching to the TRIAX. From the 1st shift out of the driveway it felt different, smoother. It also took that cold morning notchiness right out of the stick. Buttery smooth shifts up and down. It's just a fantastic product that produces the results it advertises. Isnt that refreshing? I think so. Put it this way, my stick slides into gear way smoother than Redlines stick is sliding in your rear when you pay $90 a gallon, you can bet your sphincter on that.
Review: Smoother than ever !!! - I own a 1978 VW Bus, and after replacing the shifter bushings, the shifting improved significantly just by eliminating the excess free play. Next, I decided to replace the transmission fluid. I was tempted to try a synthetic formula to see if it would make shifting even smoother. However, I learned that not all synthetic fluids are suitable for older vehicles with brass synchros due to potential corrosion issues. That’s when I found Triax, which addresses this concern, so I decided to give it a try—and WOW. This nearly 50-year-old transmission is now shifting smoother than ever. With the new shifter bushings and this excellent fluid, it’s now a real pleasure to drive my old Westy.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ affordable and effective
*by D***R on February 19, 2026*

2014 Tacoma 2wd 4cyl 5sp R155 transmission. Ran Redline MT-90 with 30K mi. OC intervals for the first 8 years before switching to Ford Motorcraft XT-M5-QS. Motorcraft shifted better in winter. After 18K mi on this last fill of Motorcraft the shifting became notchy when warm, so I'm trying this less expensive Triax. I immediately noticed easier shifting into 1st and reverse. Triax seems to be more viscous and so far has improved shifting in all gears, in all temperatures, although a little stiffer than Motorcraft when very cold. Triax performs similar to Redline when warm. If Triax remains affordable I will continue to use it, since it's performance is acceptable. I don't know if the claimed extended OC intervals are possible, but if so, TRIAX Synergy Gear MT 75W-90 GL-4 (MT-90) should an excellent choice. My transmission only needs 2.7 qts. 1 gal. costs less than 3 qts. However gallons were not available when I ordered.
