Review: A Good Book - This book is for all who want to gain a greater understanding of the English language in all of its forms: writing and reading and speaking. You see, I have learned to write a balanced list. The author(s) of this book has written a very useful book. This book provides the essentials of the subject at hand in a straight forward and complete manner. More to the point, this book is an enjoyable easy read. I like easy. I have been looking for a book such as this for a long time. I have purchased many books on English grammar, but most have provided insufficient information on the subject at hand, not this one however. This one is different, this one is better, this one is a good book (rhetorical devise). Review: There ARE rules for pronunciation - I am not so ignorant to think that there are NO rules for pronunciation and spelling; however, I cam close to being that ignorant when I started teaching English Langauge Learners. I would have students from multiple countries pose the same frightening question. "Why?" Beware, if ou correct someone from another country, they will appreciate it that you did (for some Americans that is a surprise) but second is that after correcting them -- they often ask why. As native speakers we seldom know the answer to this question. That' is about the time I was concluding that though we have pronunciation "rules" they are not tightly applied in all situations. So I hunted for A book on rules and this was the jewel I have needed. I highly recommend this book if ou are teaching or learning English. The only piece that I would suggest to be added to make it perfect isl adding the images of the tongue position when pronouncing words or specific sounds. Theycan be found on the web so it shouldn't be difficult to develoop a set of them and place them in the book. Otherwise it is perfect and still gets my perect rating.
