TOPDON AD900 Lite OBD2 Scanner, Bidirectional Scan Tool, 8" Large Screen

Before I purchased this, I had been running handheld scanners of all types. Always wanting a bidirectional, but unwilling to part with thousands of dollars. Received the item quickly. It comes in a nice protective case with all included cables and documents. First thing I used it on was my DD Silverado that I’d been having strange electrical issues on for a few years now. Plugged in the device, it synched up with the tablet quickly, read the vin in about five seconds (reads newer vehicles quicker), and started the scan. All told it took less than five minutes to roll through the 28 different tests on my truck. Was able to pick up the interface and using the device quickly, pulled three extra dtc’s my old scanner never saw. Ran live data, and saw that cylinders 2,4,6, were all misfiring, and found out it was due to a new O2 sensor that had decided to quit. Was able to monitor my 5v sensors and see that my ect sensor was getting intermittent voltage. Literally took less than 30 min with this device to trace down what had been nagging me for a couple of years. It runs android iOS, has chrome for a browser. Once it is connected to WiFi everything is seamless, any question I had while using it were all easily answered through the systems help function. It has a cameras for scanning vins, plenty of storage. It’s just a great tool. I rarely am happy about anything I receive any more, always seems like I am reduced to just dealing with a products shortcomings. This unit is bidirectional, so you can run individual system tests to determine failure. There is so much more it can do, I still haven’t even cracked the surface of its capabilities. Got it on sale $150 off. Even at full price it would still have been cheaper than the three other scanners I’ve had over the years, plus throwing parts at what I thought the problem may be. Zero complaints. Worth every penny. Anyone who works vehicles more than they want to would benefit from this greatly.

Great platform. The updates are a bit annoying and long if there’s A LOT. I wish they offered the same diagnostic features for each manufacturer platform. Connecting is easy. Use is easy. Live data is great and accurate. compatibility is great. Like most diag tools, common sense and basic knowledge is a must. Diagnostics are clear and reliable. Easy to understand and operate. It’s seen a lot of use with no sign of slowing down. Great for at home diagnosing and testing. Only complaint is needing an SD card after a while to just run the program and all the updates. No issues with the wireless OBD2. Connects everytime. It is a bit annoying having to sign in more often to get into the actual app. But other than that, this compares to a lot of the “higher end” name brand products that offer the same diagnostic features.

I would give this scanner six stars if an option was available. Have been using multiple different types of scanners over the years as a shade tree mechanic, but wanted one that was wireless and bidirectional. Thanks to the folks at Royalty Auto and their video reviews and recommendations, I decided on this TOPDON. Glad I did! Quality is great, solid case and display. OBD2 Wireless Plug-in adapter stores neatly in the back of the scanner and works flawlessly. Unit was easy to do initial setup and software updates. Actually first used it on my neighbors BMW 740l to do a service reset and new battery replacement and registration in the system. (Didn’t know that was a thing!? lol) He and I were both blown away at how quickly this scanner auto recognized the vehicle and established comms. It took no time to reset his service intervals and do the BMS battery maintenance/replacement systems update. Simply blown away. Plugged it into his GMC Yukon Denali next and it just as quickly went through that vehicle’s systems. Even has the option to adjust the air ride suspension settings with this scanner. Absolutely blown away for the capabilities at this price point. It runs Android 11 and can be used as a regular touch screen tablet as well, along with having a camera. Mind blown. Don’t hesitate to buy if considering.

I originally made a 1 star review. After being contacted by seller I felt I needed to modify my review. I bought this scanner thinking it had bidirectional control. It does but not in the sense that it could do actuator testing. Like testing window motors or control injectors, or monitor 02 sensors or hvac servos. I have a cheep launch tablet that does that or at least shows state of operation. But the functionality of this scanner is in line with the price. Especially with the 150.00 coupon. For a basic backyard scanner it is pretty nice. The build quality is top notch. Feels great in my hands. Fast boot up. Fast communication. Great screen. Good touch screen sensitivity. I didn't get a lot of time going through the functionality because I couldn't get the Bluetooth dongle to sync. I tried several vehicles. On first start it's necessary to sync the obd dongle and tablet so the scanner can register the dongles ID and serial number. I spent many hours trying different things. Checking the Bluetooth on the tablet for operation. The tablet saw every Bluetooth device around me except the dongle. I tried to at least see the dongles Bluetooth on my phone. When you plug in the dongle first time it's supposed to go into sync mode. Light is on but no signal. Then I tried the included USB cable. The software then saw the dongle and pulled the requested information and auto filled the information boxes. While still attached by usb I was able to perform the operations available. Now that the tablet had the necessary info I tried to use the tablet without the cable. Nope! I couldn't see the vehicles. I'm changing my review from 1 star to 4. The seller reached out to me and offered to accept a return and said they will send me a shipping label. I would give the seller a 5 star review if I could but no way to split reviews up. I take 1 star away because of the faulty dongle. I suspect that this tablet has a problem with most. Hence the 150.00 coupon. Some people will be just fine being tethered to the device. I don't take away any stars for the performance. I think it does exactly what the advertisement says. It's a basic diagnostic device. It's a really well built device. Even has hdmi output that topdons premium tablets don't. I need to connect the tablet to a external TV. The device has a camera and records video. I need to display the video and screen shots on a TV for my customers to see. I found that this model didn't have the functionality I needed. For the price I payed I would have kept it and gave it to my son and purchase a professional unit. But because of the dongle issue I have to return it. I didn't ask to have it replaced because I suspect the problem will remain. So I give 5 stars to seller 4 stars to the tablet and software 1 star to the dongle.

-update . Do not buy from Amazon because there’s two different warranty departments . One is TopDon US and another is TopDon global . If you buy from Amazon you have to deal with TopDon Global and they do not have access to TopDon US . You will have to explain everything up to 3 times . Eventually they will stop replying to emails when is time to replace the device . All that to tell you the warranty is only 1 year. My scan tool lasted 1 year and 1 month . The scan tool is great until it breaks . Do not buy it because once is time to get it fixed they will make it impossible . They make you call tech support , then tech support came to conclusion it needs to be replaced but they make u start over by filling out a ticket on their website . The people on the website pretend they have no clue what happened on the call during tech support . Then they start emailing you to try everything you already tried over the phone . After that they send you back to the scan tool to fill out another ticket to start from 0 again . Then they recommend going thru Amazon but Amazon gives you their tech support phone # . To start from 0 again . I love the scan tool till I realize the support is not really support instead is a system that will make u give up and go buy another one .

This little guy rocks! I saw Royalty Auto use Topdon scanners and saw how cheap this one was and really needing a bi-directional these days I figured to give it a shot and impressive is an understatement. So for cheap option comparision sakes I’m putting it up against my shops Autel scanner. First and foremost is the wireless adapter that magnets to the back of the scanner that easily pops out for usage but strong enough to stay in during a drop. Then comes the awesome ability to bypass the diagnostic side and jump right into the maintenance functions, which for oil, EPB and EPS/ADAS speeds up so much process time. The constant updates are usually quick and pain free. I will say this one downside, SD card is going to be needed immediately after purchase because of the storage load for each manufacturer update. Other than that, this thing is the best bang for your buck.

This scanner is basically a capable Android tablet that happens to be a car scanner. It has a very responsive touch screen with easy to find functions. Registration took a bit of typing since it needs a email and login, but that’s how they track the expiration date for the subscription. Firmware update was quick and easy. The individual automaker updates take a bit longer to download and install but you can pick and choose the ones you need. I’m not planning on running a scan on a Lamborghini anytime soon. Bluetooth connection was fast and remained solid throughout. It also included a short cable as a backup. I was able to scan a 2008 Odyssey for code P0420 and this tool provided a detailed procedure for running the diagnostics according to the manufacturer. It will also show codes not seen by a standard OBDII scanner, such as HVAC and accessory codes. Some are benign but some might also be helpful. I realized the mode control actuator for the rear AC is throwing a code which explains the weird noises coming out of the trunk area. In conclusion, for this price point this is a very capable scanner. Updates only last 2 years so hopefully it won’t be too obsolete by then.

Die Darstellung ist Mega und alles super detailliert. Alles ist sehr benutzerfreundlich aufgebaut und überschaubar. Updates bei schlechten WLAN Signal werden bei mit dank 5ghz mit über 8mbit/s runter geladen, bei starkem Signal sogar über 17mbit/s und die Updates rasen einfach mal durch. Egal ob Fehlersuche, Grundeinstellungen vom Bauteilen, anlernen von Bauteilen, service Rückstellungen, Codierungen, usw usw usw. Absolutes Allrounder Gerät Top Diagnose Gerät, was sein Geld allemals wert ist, für Hobby Schrauber und auch Für eine Professionelle Werkstatt empfehlenswert. Online Programmierungen und Codierungen usw geht alles damit.

Der Grund für den Kauf dieses Diagnosegeräts war die leuchtende Motorkontrollleuchte in meinem Auto. Da ich es leid war, das Fahrzeug immer wieder in die Werkstatt zu bringen, wollte ich den Fehler selbst auslesen und beheben. Das Diagnosegerät wird in einem sehr stabilen Koffer geliefert, der definitiv werkstattgeeignet ist. Neben dem Gerät gibt es ein Ladekabel und ein OBD2-Adapterkabel. Das Gerät kann auch kabellos verwendet werden, allerdings muss der passende Dongle separat bestellt werden. Sobald man das Gerät einschaltet, befindet man sich auf einer leicht modifizierten Android-Oberfläche. Die Diagnose erfolgt in der Topdon-App, allerdings stehen auch viele andere Apps zur Verfügung und man kann das Internet wie gewohnt nutzen. Wenn man eine Diagnose startet, gibt es verschiedene Funktionen, unter anderem das Auslesen von Live-Daten, was ich im Video kurz zeige. Darüber hinaus kann man Fehlercodes auslesen und löschen. Bei einem erkannten Fehler gelangt man durch einen Klick direkt in eine Websuche mit Anleitungen zur Behebung des Problems, passend zum jeweiligen Automodell. Dank des Geräts konnte ich feststellen, dass mein Luftmassensensor defekt war. Ich konnte diesen für unter 30 € selbst austauschen, was mir viel Zeit ohne Auto und natürlich auch Geld gespart hat! Ich bin super zufrieden mit diesem Diagnosegerät – für Heimwerker und Hobbyschrauber auf jeden Fall bestens geeignet.
