Review: Yeah, you won't regret it. - Wired earbuds are my preferred listening mode for just about everything from music to work, to just watching videos. I just picked up some new high impedance IEMs and threw this in the cart on a whim. Holy cow! It felt like I was on a magic carpet singing "a whole new world" duo with Aladdin himself. Total game changer. The gain switch is awesome for lower listening volumes, really gives the sound some punch behind it, but for higher (LOUD) listening volumes, the gain boost can 'muddy-up' the sound a bit if you're listening to bass-heavy music. Super clean sound at high volumes with the gain switch off, though. I cranked this unit for 3+ hours right out of the box before I even charged it. It's got a solid feel to it and I like how the volume knob is just a bit tight, so you can't just accidentally crank on it, volume changes need to be deliberate. The only thing I wish this had was bluetooth, because you otherwise need a janky usb.c-to-trrs adapter or a bluetooth adapter to plug into the input, paired to your phone. (Bt adapter dongle is under $20) I suppose there's probably some higher end DAC units that have bluetooth, but this thing is so awesome for the price, it's worth adding a cheapo BT dongle if you want to use it wirelessly with your phone. I had been using a cheapo bluetooth single-earbud for use with my phone, but it's really only good for podcasts & audio books, the sound quality is ok at best, and I refuse to spend three figures on BT earbuds just to listen to music. This package ended up being about $60-something for IEMs, this DAC (amp), and a $12 BT dongle, and I'm absolutely stoked about it. Top notch sound, this killer amp that seems like it will run all day, and a cheapo BT dongle with similar battery life. It's a do-it-all set up for work or play.
Review: Everything you need in a headphone amp for a great price - I got this little amp about 4 months ago and I've been using it with a pair of Logitech G Pro X headphones. When I got them, they were restrained by the output of my phone or the little DAC they came with. I got this amplifier and it has really brought out the potential of these cans. One of the first things I listened to was some Hans Zimmer and the experience was incredible, with the additional volume and depth this amplifier adds. I am not an expert when it comes to this particular niche, but I am a lover of good, loud music and if it's good enough for me, this amp is good enough for 99% of folks out there. The amplifier is about 2/3 the size of your average smartphone, albeit a bit thicker. The case is painted metal; it has spent a bit of time in my backpack and pocket and so far, the finish has held up very well. It has also survived a few drops, it still functions properly and looks no worse for the wear. The knob has a heavy detent when clicking the amplifier on, and rotates smoothly with a confident amount of resistance. The connectors hold the 3.5mm cables in place firmly and have a satisfying snap into place. There is a small switch for going between low and high-level inputs which I have not had the chance to play with. Around the back of the amp is a charging port with a small indicator LED to tell you when it is full or charging. The MicroUSB connector (Sorry, no Type C) isn't showing any signs of fatigue yet and still holds the connector tightly. I am always dubious of stated battery capacity claims, but regardless of the ratings, I'll say I've used it for 6+ hours while flying cross-country and on layovers, without it dying on me. I haven't run it dry in the field yet. My sole complaint is the included 3.5mm cable. It was too small to fit tightly in my other devices and would not work properly unless pressed. This was not an issue for me, though, as I used cables I already had on hand. If you need a cable to connect the amplifier to the source, I would recommend throwing one of those in your cart also. Overall, for the money, this little guy is a great item. When I purchased it, I figured eh, why not? This is gift card money and if it breaks, I'm out $30. I am happy to report that this was not money wasted. If you have a set of headphones you want to unlock more potential from, but don't want to spend big money, the Neoteck is for you.
