This was just fun! It's actually challenging, I thought it would be pretty simple but definitely not for elementary aged kids. It's hard to tell in the picture but the maze is actually different levels inside the box. You have to turn it upside down and make slight movements to get the ball to go down certain rows and so on. I got them for my nephews. One of my nephews is in high school and the other in junior high. The one in high school got his open and the one in junior high couldn't get it, his mom couldn't get it, and I eventually gave up and gave it to his brother to try and he got it lol. I borrowed it from him later on to see if I could solve it and finally did. It was fun though, challenging in an enjoyable way for people who like puzzles. I used cash instead of a gift card and it worked well. I just made sure to fold it in a way that made it about the same size as a gift card. It was a little thicker but the drawer still opened when the maze was solved. They're also reusable which is great for the gift receiver.

Perfect for holiday gift giving! I order these every year. I hit a snag with my most recent purchase and the company was very quick to respond and fix the issue. 5 stars!!!

Our grand-kids are teens, so money and gift cards are perfect because they love shopping for themselves. However - money and gift cards in a greeting card is boring, so we always try to make it fun with a scavenger hunt, stitching it in a piece of clothing, hiding it in an ornament or sock or even a pet toy or kids toy: balls (sliced open and glued back together) or kids computer etc. When I saw these Brain Teasing Mazes and also the Currency Vaults I decided instantly that is what we would use this year even though the price was higher than what I like to spend for "wrapping." We open our gifts one at a time so we have the pleasure of watching what everyone gets. When the kids couldn't get the puzzle solved instantly we moved on, BUT the kids were paying attention to their puzzles and everyone was laughing at them. After a while we heard a loud squeal - "I got it open!" We also heard a frustrating, "How does this thing work?" And, "I'll help you!" Then "YEA!" YES IT WAS WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY and now they can re-use it for their friends. Contrary to previous comments, our puzzles arrived in PERFECT CONDITION and sooner than expected. I did have to call regarding the beautiful currency vaults because when they arrived neither my husband or I could get them open to insert the cash. The problem - they are mailed from an area of the country that is moist in the winter so the wood had swollen around the rod. So all the tap tap taps on any part of the puzzle would not release the rod. I was told to put it in a warm place for several hours and it would open. Woo-hoo - It worked perfectly! A great "wrapping" for young teens through adults.

I won't go into too much detail up front and do some pros/cons before giving my final review of these puzzles. I am a plant superintendant with a few supervisors that report to me. I wanted to give them a gift card for Christmas, but I don't like to just put it in a card and hand it over. I am a gamer and a bit of a prankster, so I couldn't resist these. Here are some pros/cons to these boxes: Pros: - Fun for just about any age: The supervisors range in age of late 30's to mid 60's. When I handed them the box, they all laughed and said that they thought that was the neatest idea. All of them have stated that they want to buy some to hand out to their family. I'd say that just about anyone could have fun with these. It is also something different that isn't seen often. - Build Quality: These seemed to be built very well for a plastic box. I tested them all before giving them away, and I really liked the feel. It functioned as intended and pretty easily as well - It is challenging: When you first try to figure it out, it is a bit of a challenge. I found myself taking about 15 minutes or so to figure it out the first time. - It is a good time killer, at least the first time around. - Regiftable Cons: - Once completed, it is not really something that someone will use again, except to maybe regift it. It is also pretty easy to figure out a second time. - Probably not a good gift for people who are not puzzle people. It isn't much of a challenge, but I could see someone with little patience taking a hammer to it. It can take some effort to figure it out. Neutral: - Cost: The cost is really in the eye of the beholder. This could be argued that the cost is offset by the reaction and fun, while others may argue that it is just a piece of plastic. Personally, the cost is a bit high for what you get, but hey, the supervisors had a blast and said they'd be getting them some for gifting. Summary: Overall, here is my take...these are a bit on the pricier side for a gag gift on top of purchasing gift cards for it, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. The supervisors that received them had a blast, which was what I found to be the best part of the gift card gifting. I am very much considering getting these for my family as well. This is something that may not be for everyone, but if there's a person in your life that enjoys puzzles or gag gifts, this could be a lot of fun for them.

UPDATE: I was being an idiot and not actually solving the maze. It took my kiddo about 5 minutes to figure out out, and it works exactly as it should. My review has been updated to 5 stars for awesomeness! Original Review: Cool maze, not so cool gift card holder since the card drawer wouldn't open even after I solved the maze (twice, btw, using a magnet the second time to make sure the ball was going where I wanted it to go). Fortunately, I didn't put anything truly valuable in it - just a clue for a Christmas-themed indoor scavenger hunt for my 12-year-old - and I'm glad that I tested it out first and had time to do something different when it failed to open. At least it's a cool maze that's definitely not easy to solve. It's just a bit overpriced for something that doesn't actually work.

A fun twist on a gift card holder. I try to get my kids something unique for their gift cards. Unique is getting harder to find. I have pretty much used up most of the selection that doesn't cost more than the card. This was a fun low cost way to present the card.

My 12 yr old grandson loved the idea of a puzzle to solve to get his gift of money. It was a fun idea instead of just putting money in a card. HOWEVER, you are supposed to get the marble through the maze to the bullseye. BUT the bullseye is not easily identifiable. It is a little circle tge same clear color as the maze…little, so little you can hardly see it…even more difficult to see because there is no color. It should be a red circle so you can see the target/bullseye. I wish I took a picture of it before he went home.

These mazes are great! This was one of my most memorable gifts from when I was a kid, because my siblings and cousins and I spent a lot of Christmas morning trying to open them together. I wanted to do them for my kids! I have younger kids, so it took them awhile to get their cards out, but they were super motivated to get them so they didn’t give up. They are excited to re-gift them to friends with new giftcards and watch their friends try to get them out too!

Great gift idea to add some fun into a present instead of just handing over a gift card. Took the kids are few hours to work it out but they enjoyed the challenge. Can be used again so am sure kids will get their friends to give it a try. Gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the box didn’t include the answers in it, had to look it up online. Also the instructions weren’t that clear as to where the start and end point for the ball was. Good fun though, would buy it again if giving a gift card.
